I dreamed I waited for these six months only to install them and realize they didn’t work.

 

Which is why the discount should be extended even further out. I know it already has, but this is ridiculous.

 

i emailed morimoto since TRS can't explain what a "base base model" is. hopefully the engineers can have a clearer response and more info on the test they ran that resulted in failures.

Technically there wasnt any official failures. Andrew basically said that its possible running amber DRL all the time would cause the resistors to fail. But I've done retrofits with the XB switchback strips and some clients are running them as amber for the DRL's and no one has reported any failures. And I would assume the XB headlights will have better resistors than the switchback strips.

 

how does this affect the warranty? i want to cover my butt just in case there are any issues down the road. i don't want to install them then a few months later they shit the bed for some reason and i'm out $1k.

MUST HAVE "DRL OFF" CAPABILITY! IF YOU CANNOT DISABLE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT, IT WILL INTERFERE WITH THE SWITCHBACK TURN SIGNAL. THIS IS USUALLY ONLY THE CASE ON BASE MODEL TACOMAS SUCH AS THE SR/SR5.

but like i pointed out yesterday, all 3rd gen tacomas have the ability to disable DRL's even the earliest SR's.

then there's also the issue that when I emailed morimoto a couple months ago about running amber DRL's all the time, they said the turn signals then wouldn't work.

 

From what Ive researched your right that all the 3rd gen Tacomas have the ability to disable the DRL. Its possible in other countries, Tacomas don't have the "DRL OFF" option on the SR and SR5 models which could be what they are basing this info on and not the Tacomas in the US. Morimoto is based in another country and the Tacoma is popular in other countries along with Hilux. Thats the only thing I can think of. Its probably a good idea to take a screenshot of their quote as well as TRS website that way if you have any issues you will have proof that they said its capable with Tacomas that has DRL OFF switch and they''ll have to honor warranty.

 

to me, the problem is they're calling out SR/SR5's specifically so they can turn around and say my truck was listed as an exclusion and deny my claim. if it's a country specific model then they need to state that. i'm not going to take them to court over a $1k but it's still enough money for it to suck.

i'm just trying to do my due diligence and i wish they'd clear this up sooner than later. even if i had the headlights in hand today, i wouldn't install them.

well on the other thread TRS just made it clear that as long as you have the DRL OFF/OFF option on your stalk the headlights will work, so i'm in

No. Chrome plating then reseal.
