Ok now I'm confused again. How did we determine that the speakers are the problem?

    Earlier you said this:

That's what I was going by, and if you have a problem where all of the sound is coming from the rear and to one side, that's not a speaker problem. That's a HU problem, and it should have been addressed under warranty. ...with OEM parts, not a shopping spree.

New speakers won't fix that. If the dealer is giving you "go away and leave us alone" money, there's an obvious part of the story that I missed, I think.

Drive on over to the Lexus dealer, and ask for Mark Levinson.

Ill go to the dealer whenever I have a day off and have them listen to it and see what they say. Say they say overall balance/fade is equal but I still have to have the volume 3/4 or more to hear someone talking on bluetooth and sound from dash is almost muffled? I am way open to suggestions just wanted a good base from here.

    Gotcha.

I'd attack it one component at a time, if you haven't done this already:

So if the truck is playing a good FM radio station (one where the little yellow "HD" is lit up), crank the volume up to around 30 or so. The resulting music should be at a medium level, loud enough to be heard in low speed traffic, but might sound a little quiet when you're at freeway speeds. To your ears it should sound like it's all coming from the lower front door speakers, but left and right channels are balanced. You probably won't be able to identify sound coming from the dash or the rear doors if it's working like factory.

From there, play with the balance setting. All the way right should sound equally loud as all the way left. Bring it back to center and play with the fade. All the way forward should sound only slightly different than center, all the way rear is going to get noticably quieter. I can't tell you why they do it that way, but that's normal. Next, use both balance and fade to bring in one corner at a time, make sure each speaker is firing without a lot of crackle or mud. With an HD radio channel, you should hear the lead instruments and lyrics clearly through the stock system. It's normal for the quieter background instruments and backup vocals to sound muddy on this truck (That's why so many people say it's trash), but the front stuff you're "supposed to hear" should come in clear as a bell.

If all that works then we can go on to troubleshoot Bluetooth sound, which is a bigger can of worms. However, if the FM radio isn't producing sound like it should, then that's definitely a warranty issue.

    Make sense?

Don't shoot me, but likely, you have the volume on your phone turned down. Your Bluetooth level hitting the radio is a function of the volume on your phone. Try this experiment... With the stereo at 1/2, raise the volume on the phone. Does the level coming through the speakers in the truck increase?

See post 59. You should have said 'dealer funded aftermarket system’.

But then again, doubtful that happened........

After years of hoping I’d get good sound and even acceptable reception I gave up and realized Toyota audio is crap. Next Gen I’m getting no audio at all and starting with aftermarket.

    The ole radio delete package.

Don't hold your breath for seeing that again. Especially with the head unit doubling as a system settings monitor.

But I did read today Toyota was returning to regular keys to offset the chip shortage. So you may be in luck.

My new song will be a parody of Reba. I had a key when keys weren't cool.

My 22 is only 4 weeks old. Rear speakers have little to no sound. Playing music at volume 40 in truck. Loud and clear. Use fade and shift to back. Almost a whisper. From what I’ve been able to tell by looking at specs of the HU only the fronts are provided amplification.

On my 2nd gen, I had friends literally laugh at how loud, or not loud, the stereo was. If the 3rd gen is anything similar, there stereo just plain sucks. As @Rock Lobster said, the magnets are near non existent, there is no power to drive them, and the rears don't get any power when it's on full blast..... I dunno, but my VW base model S TDI Sportwagen has a WAY better system in it.

if this was an option, i would've bought new. but i'm one of those wierdo's that wants manual locks, manual trans, and crank windows. the only 'luxury' item i need is heated seats. the oem stereo lasted 2 weeks. long enough to get my adapter harnesses ordered and installed.

as it stands, the 3rd gen is one of the last vehicles on the road i can still yank the stereo without making the rest of the vehicles electronics flip out.
