I couldn't find too many posts about durping offroad wheels with detailed photos of how it looked. So I did it myself, I am happy with the result, and I am going to share it.

This is what they looked like stock. I am sure many of you already know how they look.

I taped off the valve, put plastic bags behind the wheel to protect the breaks, then used playing cards to protect the tire from over-spray.

You will see I removed the Toyota Emblem. Ripped it off with needle nose pliers and am going to put a red TRD cap on it instead. Coming via Amazon.

Here is the end result. All black. Again TRD emblems coming soon but I will update with those photos.

    Total cost:

1 deck of cards. 1 deck can cover 2 tires at a time. $1
    1 can of plastidip $6
6 plastic grocery bags per wheel $priceless

Easy enough install anyone can do it. Clean everything very well before starting. Update on caps to come.

Nice work. I'll be interested to see how they hold up over time. I love the look, but just concerned with dings and chipping too easily. Guess you can always just respray it.

They look great that color. But you would be better served if you took them to a body shop and had them powder coated. Personally I like the look of my OR wheels just fine the way they are.

I see you dipped the lugs. I wonder how they’ll hold up after a rotation?

Only used 1 can? How many coats did you do?

I did the lugs on my 2nd Gen and they got tore up at the first rotation. I'm on the hunt for black lugs before doing this again.

$$$. Figured let's try this first. If they dont hold I'll paint them or just buy black ones.

Probably not the best. Never had plastidipped wheels before.

I have some inserts in the way.

1 can gave me a good 8+ coats per wheel. Once the lugs get pulled I'll reapply or just paint them. Or just buy different wheels at that point. I'm cheap. We will see.

I did the same thing but I didn’t do the lugs. This will tide me over until the tires wear out and then I’ll replace the wheels at that point.

I’ve had mine like this for a year and a half. Only had to touch up once.

Looks great! Seriously thinking about doing this with mine. Any particular reason you didn't remove the wheels to apply?

I did the same to mine about 10 months ago and they have held up great. Off roaded a couple times, car washes, and tire rotations. I will say they are a little tough to keep clean, the plastidip holds on to the dirt.

I can vouch for them holding up. I ran them dipped for 2 years including Western NY winter's with no issues. Stood up to everything

Looks great! You can use tire shine and the plastidip comes right off the tire.

Wait, what? You tire shine the rubber first, then just spray your Plastidip, and then wipe off the tire afterwards? Genius.
