I just upgraded mine to the 2021 17" 4Runner pro wheel. Their are more tire options for 17" wheels. I ended up getting load range C KO2's, this load range was not available on the 16" wheel version.

Go with the duratracs bro, ko2’s look better from the side but have shittier traction and they’re pretty heavy

As for wheels its usually just for looks but some wheels can be lighter than stock which would help preserve the truck’s power by reducing the rotational mass, which especially helps after adding heavier tires

certain wheels also push the wheel/tire assembly further away from suspension components to reduce rubbing on the UCA from running large tires

i would love some new wheels strictly for the stance but for now my 1.25” wheel spacers are giving me a decent looking stance

I’m a fan of the OR Wheels which came stock on my OR. The tires will get upgraded at some point (when the stock Duratracks are closer to being worn-out or start to give me problems).

I also used to spend a lot of $$ upgrading my wheels to be different. Now I go for more subtle changes. One of the best upgrades I made on my T100 was to go from some dated, chrome aftermarket wheels to a set of take-off FJ Cruiser wheels. Gives it a much more subtle look which I like.

2 years in still running my stock wheels. Just purchased some sliders on the RCI group buy that’s going on now. Starting to save my pennies on some new wheels just want some flat black rims nothing wrong with my stock ones they will be converted into winter wheels.

There is nothing wrong with stock rims. I wheeled on mine for 10 years.

But this also depends on tires size selection. Different wheel offset and back spacing is the reason to upgrade rims. Stock backspacing rims are fine for near stock size tires or skinny 33s (255s) but they will rub like hell on your UCAs without wheel spacers if you go up to 285s or larger.

I upgraded to different rims when I went to 285s to get the correct backspacing to push the tires further out and clear my control arms without needing wheel spacers.

Can't believe no one mentioned this yet in 2 pages of posts

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Why?
Too much disposable income and they live for their truck.

I have my stock cast wheels for the Summer and my steelies with a set of REAL snows for the Winter.

It also depends on the brand of tire you run; some brands run a little larger than others even in the same size. I've noticed this to be true in the larger (33" and above) sizes. For example the first set of 33" tires I ran on my Silverado were Pro Comp's (made by Cooper I think), they rubbed the UCA's and required the use of a wheel spacer. A few years later I replaced those tires with the same size BFG A/T's (the version before the K02) and they were narrow enough I no longer needed to run a wheel spacer. Same listed size but obviously the Cooper's were just that much wider.

If you don't like the chrome on the stock OR rims you can also plasti dip them. Mine are about 3 months in and I've had no issues at all

I think the stock OR wheels look pretty good and since my truck has only 9K, tough to part with basically new wheels/tires. As some have stated, the choices are more limited in the 16" tire size and I will likely swap to 17", at some point......maybe save-up my lunch money for some Volks.....:spending:

I blacked mine out too but with vinyl decals. 2 years in and got some peeling. Did you take the wheel off to plasti dip or did you tape off the tire to spray while still on the truck? I'm even considering some spray paint because I like the way the stocks look all black!

I tried the vinyl pieces that were specifically produced "for the chrome areas" and I could always see little slivers of chrome and could never get them to set right. If you look close at the pictures people usually posted of the vinyl pieces too you could see small areas of it peeking through. After plasti dipping my rims I'd never consider the vinyl pieces again.

I took the wheels off and used the note card method, you need to spray quite a bit (about half a can maybe a little more) of plasti dip to get it to sit well and look good. Its easy to scrape off but I don't want all that over spray getting on my truck and different areas. You need to spray on quite a bit and having the wheel off and flat will make it dry evenly too and the paint won't run. Also after the first rim you'll notice certain areas require more paint than others to have it look clean, it can only can be explained with experience but don't be afraid to get up close and spray areas a little heavier that show paint/chrome coming through or look like it is light or spotty. A nice coat prevents it from peeling and some places need a little heavier spray than others.

If you do spray paint or plasti dip make sure you clean the rim really well and prepare it, it makes a huge difference in the finished product. I would highly recommend taking the wheels off and get good stiff non dollar store note cards as well, you don't want them falling over onto the paint while it's drying.

The best part is you can touch up little nick spots if you have them with the plasti dip since nicks in paint are inevetable if you are out wheeling
