4LO is gonna be your friend in technical stuff as to not burn up your clutch.

There is a reason why i bought an auto... unless i was doing high speed stuff in the dunes where i want to hold a gear or something like that.... the auto is soooo much easier to drive in technical stuff.

Your clutch button is your friend when on a steep hill.

like nd4spdbh said most steep stuff and difficult situation 4lo is your friend. IF you have locker it will make alot easier to.

yeah clutch cancel start. Put her in 1st gear and 4lo with clutch out n start her up, you wont have to touch the clutch which will make it so you dont burn it up.

I am still not sure what the function of the clutch cancel start is design form. Is it just to start the truck without pressing the clutch?

So if you stall on a hill you start it without putting the clutch in? Sounds sketchy

Run it in 4L and shift as needed and don't ride the clutch. If you cannot shift without losing all your forward speed stay in the lower gear. Unless you are into rock climbing and or serious off roading you will be fine.

Most use it just to use it but it is seldom really needed. Unless you keep stalling the vehicle and are riding the clutch to start it moving again it is not needed.

I bought a 6 spd specifically for off roading. I prefer manual. 99% of the time I'm in 4lo, 2nd gear. I use 1st when descending rocks, maybe 3rd on a straight stretch. I don't use the clutch too much at all off road actually.

I learned to wheel in a stick...Lets just say that rig smelled like clutch for a week! Someone then gave me a very simple tip and my vehicles since have thanked me!

Just wheel in 4LO! Set it and forget it! Well don't forget it...

exactly it. Not scketchy at all, allows you to get over an obstacle with finesse if you stalled and cant roll back.

My old jeep didnt even have a clutch switch and this "feature" came in handy ALL the time.

    Yes This.

Clutch switch lock-out is great when you stall on a hill. People are afraid to use it thinking it will burn up the starter - it won't.

I've used it a few times (always 4lo 1st gear) - the truck was made to do this - great feature.

Won't it just stall if you're in gear and do that

Thank you for the tips!!! I use it when I need to start my truck I don't want to hop in to start the clutch lol...The first time I used 4Lo was in the sand dunes I thought I was stuck but the 4lo saved my life but it was scary because it got stuck in 4Lo and could not get in 4x2 or 4hi.

That happens sometimes. Usually it's just a matter of driving forward a bit, then it will engage (or disengage). Sometimes you have to back up just a bit, then drive forward.

Like everyone has stated 4lo is you friend. Personally I have a tenancy to leave it in 4lo 1st when dealing with rocks and peddle the throttle to keep it from stalling. Just get out there with some experienced guys if you know any or join an off road club or association usually a wealth of knowledge there too best advice I can give

I don't do any hard core wheeling, but when i've gone up trails I used to hit in an auto I was really surprised how easy it is to use the 6spd manual Good tips are definitely using 4LO when warranted, keeps speed nice and controlled.

Even in 4HI, you can let the RPMs get pretty low without any issues so don't worry about using the clutch when the RPMs drop but hold just below 1000 RPM.

Smile at the guys driving autos as you pass, let them know you're more bad ass!

    :p
