I need to see a picture of this cold air intake. Most of our trucks came with one from the factory.

 

I'm guessing a grenaded torque converter or transfer gear, if it can roll in neutral without sounding like capt'n crunch, and won't go in 4WD. Something mid-ship went bang, and it wasn't something cheap.

 

But he says the driveshaft spins. Implying everything upstream is ok..

 

The question is, when is it spinning - under engine power or when its being pushed?

You were there, doing burn outs, while people were still entering/exiting the vehicle and so hearing your friend "shutting the door" was normal to you?

Clanked out, I’ve learned a new term. I’m definitely going to be using it and impressing my friends with my new found vocabulary.
To recap, you were doing something dumb and immature (not to mention dangerous) abusing your truck doing “burnouts” and you fucked up 2wd. So then you put it in 4wd and fucked that up. Now you have no wheel drive. No way anyone can make a definitive diagnosis of “clanked out” without actually hands on inspecting the truck. I can say though that your truck is currently a no wheel drive fucked up truck and to get it unclanked it’s going to be expensive $$$$.
I wish you luck, hope it doesn’t break the bank. Hope also you learn from the experience.
