The price is not as bad as I thought, but I'm not sure I'd want electronic touch-screen HVAC controls...

 

You don’t unless it’s a Tesla or something else with an updated UI. My ‘17 Prius Prime has the HVAC in the software and touchscreen. When powering up the car, it takes thirty seconds to boot up the computer to allow you to use it. Annoying as hell.

 

Need to get rid of the WindowsXP user interface aesthetic.

Would love to see these become a fully open-source version of Android e.g., built on the core Android Open Source Project or LineageOS, and with open source infotainment software running on top. This looks like a lot of made-in-China software. I would be very concerned about privacy. There is a long history of Chinese-built firmwares for embedded systems doing lots of bad privacy things (lots of companies over there embed gnarly tracking/data-mining stuff with very low security and sell it without any regard for the target customer's country's laws).

If they were to make the software end of this properly open source I'd be all over it (and they'd make a bigger killing on the hardware sales).

 

I did the joying unit and 9" is plenty of screen for me . Joying also sells a 11" unit also

 

My Pioneer touch screen HU from 2018 takes a while to boot up and sometimes randomly shuts down!
