Is it an actual hitch or that US general winch bumper plate thing?

Yeah, you should really melt some solder wire on to the end of the pin and file it down. The connection itself is on the sides of the pin, but the connection will be much better if soldered. No worries, I'd rather cut the connector off so I can snake the wire through my firewall more easily and add a connector after installation;)

Yep, this is coax connector 101. The outside of the pin is waht connects to female connector, the solder point on the end of the pin and end of the copper wire is the best connection point between the coax and the male connector. Some people take the extra step of soldering the frayed ends of the ground at the base of the male connector but I trust the compression enough to do the trick:thumbsup:

That's the easy part but do you know how to cut back the sheathing and foil sleeve to add the new connector.. That's the hard part young one

That was actually put on by a professional radio shop - Staley Communications. I watched the guy do it. They use a special crimper to make the connection and solder is unnecessary. But you go ahead and jizz some solder on it if it will make you feel better.

Lol no it's not. I can run an exacto knife around the circumference of a cable. The rubber sleed is mad easy, the foil shield is just a matter of finding where the wrap ends and peeling it up like a bit of tape.

I hear ya. I fiddled with it and it looks very much compressed, I'm sure that it is at least 95% as good as if it were soldered but I don't mind taking the extra step of arseing around, especially when it means arseing around with a blowtorch!

No go for me tomorrow. I was up past Millersburg today. Picked up large greenhouse for friend in Amish country.

Tomorrow I promised to help frame up walls for his new shop. Allows me access to a lift any time.

I'll get your number from you soon and we can organize when our stuff comes in from allpro. Tracy said we should have stuff shipped in just a couple of weeks or less.
