Reading this makes me feel ashamed that my suspension kit is just chillin in the garage.. all I've accomplished is putting on my long tube header. Havn't even gotten new exhaust fabbed yet. Looks like I'll have to get my dirt bike street-legalled so I have something to drive to work while I suspensionify the taco. Your Xterra is lookin pretty schweet..

On a related note, why do offroaders always seem to put their hellas on/behind the front grill? If you tuck them up in the under-carriage where they're too high to get snagged while wheelin they will work so much better! The sound reverberates off the ground and shakes everything within 60 feet of you to tiny bits of dust;)

If you need the paperwork to plate the bike, I have a copy of the BMV form in the folder titled " vehicles and installs" in my Smugmug. Link in my signature. I hear most BMVs in the Columbus area are clueless about it and claim there isn't a form, etc.

I'd link the form directly from SM but I'm on my phone and that's awkward to do.... I also never found that form on line...

Edit, had to get on the laptop to pay my car insurance anyway so here's the form if you need it... it's pretty old school (I think it's dated 1989!). You should not need an inspection being in Franklin Co and (tacogirl don't read this part) most guys don't do anything but swear to the affidavit and then run a headlight, tail/ brakelight, maybe a mirror. While this is technically not legal, most cops are only looking for the plate and won't sniff beyond that.

I think this should be big enough to print; the BMV shouldn't care if the form is theirs or a reprint, even a bad reprint should be acceptable.

Thanks a lot Mark! I very much appreciate any and all info I can get on this from someone with experience plating motorcycles in Ohio.

I have not done any titling of motorcycles in Ohio so do not have anything to go on as far as BMV rules and fuck-ulations.

My bike is currently titled in California (looking at my title now I see that the expiration date was June 30 of this year:()

I may have to pay California DMV for title renewal before I can transfer title to Ohio. Also, it is currently titled for off highway use, not sure if there is some way that I could transfer the title to Ohio for on highway use so I am not re-titling after the title transfer?

I'll be looking into it and doing some research, but any input is welcome!

    I've done several bikes.

Your title shouldn't expire...? You sure that's not the ORV sticker registration? Title is a lifetime document.

To do the Ohio plate it will be way easier to plate it in Ohio. It's very difficult to plate (esp an old) dirt bikes in Ca.

    Steps:

    Get Ca title
Bring Ca title and bike to Oh BMV for out of state VIN inspection (cross ref of the numbers on the title against those on the bike, nothing else checked)
Get Oh off road title issued
Swear to affidavit I posted (sign it AT the clerks desk, not before)
    Get Oh street title issued
    Get plates

Note that titles are issued by county clerk of courts, plates and VIN insp by the BMV. Unless you go to a registrar with both, you will do a little running around.

Yeah, that was a typo. Should have said registration not title.

Thing that concerns me is the title transfer from CA to OH. The DMV out there is more fucked than the Greek economy. I had originally planned to dual-sport my bike for use in Cali but never got around to it because I was far too busy doing much more enjoyable things like disemboweling myself with rusty garden tools!:D

As long as you have a title from Ca you are good.

No title and you may be fucked. There's probably a work around but I don't know it. I've heard it's possible for an out of state resident to plate a non titled bike in Vt but I have no idea how to do that.

Don't worry, I have my title. Guard shit like that with my life. Only concern I have is jumping through legal hoops. I have a power-scooter battery I am thinking about bolting to my frame so that I can run lights without the engine running. With a few magnetic or clipon lights and some mirrors I think I should be fine. Going to need to upgrade to some supermoto tires though.. too bad tire changes are a pain in the ass cuz MX tires are super badass on dirt. Oh well, gotta make a compromise. Turning on pavement with MX tires is like shaving your cock with a cleaver while blindfolded:thumbsup:

We are going to Southington Off Road for the September run. Saturday September 5th. We will meet behind Abuello's mexican restaurant at 8:30 am. (271 & Harvard) Hang there for a few minutes, then go for breakfast. Nothing real hard but fun to use the trucks.
