What he said ^^ My wife is an insurance adjuster and there's always more damage in an actual accident, since I don't really wheel my base ac 5-lug, I don't really worry about "brush" messing up the paint or smacking a headlight :)

See, I thought they connected to the frame and with it being just focused in the one spot thought it *might* push off more. Good to know though, thanks!

They are connected to frame, but then there is usually a rather flimsy bracket that actually attaches them...just ends up being a hinge point, so if you lightly hit something it bends back into the lights, hood, ect. instead of just hitting the bumper.

I had a brush guard on my taco. Smashed a deer at about 50 miles an hour and it saved my passenger side headlight. The BG did get a little bent out of shape but I was able to heat it up and bend it back before I traded it in for the tundra hahaha.

Edit: I didn't see the post about the brackets. I did make my own brackets to mount it to the truck so maybe that helped a little:notsure:

Who likes the idea of a hourly rental of an auto lift to work on your cars yourself? I’m going to be leasing a space and installing a 10k bendpak.

If you were in the middle of the state that would make it much more appealing, but since you're Norm of the North up there, it makes your community of interest much smaller.

    Guess you'll have to move..

I have had this idea for years, but haven't gotten ballsy enough to pull the trigger plus haven't researched the liabilities of owning the space/garage but letting people work on their own vehicles. It's one thing to use it to host wrench days with friends/forum members, but I assume you are looking at this for a business open to the public? What type of insurance/liabilities do you need to have to cover that type of use? I like the idea and hope to follow in your tracks someday...just been lazy on the research side. Not sure my demographic (Dayton area) is any better than yours though.

I think it's an awesome idea. I had thought of this when I was stationed in San Antonio. They had a DIY garage for us to work on our shit. They had hired a fully trained auto tech to supervise, give advice, and lend a helping hand if needed. I wonder if having yourself and a seasoned auto tech would gain you some leniency on your insurance premiums and liabilities.

Lots to think of beyond liability

Weekend Hours? (probably the easiest time for most enthusiasts)
Willing to be there or pay someone to be there on weekends?
Do I have to have my car off the lift by a certain time for the next guy?
If the guy before me runs over and cuts into my time or basically cancels my time block, how do you fix the situation?
Notification system for the above situation so someone does show up and have to wait?
What tools and safety equipment are available or do I have to bring my own? Does it cost extra to use any in-house tools?
How close are you to a parts store if I need to make a parts run?
Is there a "shop truck" available for a parts run?
    Are certain jobs not allowed?
Fluid and parts disposal extra? (EPA issues)
Discount for a big block of hours/days?
Willing to take over someone's mess if they can't finish?
Can I rent the space to work on someone else's car (for profit)? If not, how would you "stop" it?
Storage fee if someone leaves there car on the lot for an extended period of time?
Ect ect. People are stupid so you have to be prepared!!

Might need to be like a "club" where people pay a fee monthly...just so there is some income to keep lights on. Insurance, ect. Maybe $10/month + discounted shop rates for being a member.

Probably have to charge upwards of $25/hr to rent a lift.

That said, I know a guy with one, and given the choice to pay you or go out of my way to get to his place, Im choosing his place. If not, I am usually willing to rough it on jack stands. It may be because I am older (or at least feeling it), but if I am going to pay money at all, I might as well pay a shops $100/hour for the pure convenience aspect of it.

Spent $300 and about 6 hours of my time doing wheel bearings last weekend. Now, I like working on cars, but had it been mid winter it may be worth my $600 or whatever for a shop to tackle it. Not worth say $400 and 3 hours total for me to use a lift somewhere.
