Anybody lifted their truck enough to justify a driveline spacer? I'm just curious at what point they're needed.

Its a good problem to have.....except I want a GX, and Id argue they too are overpriced. Leaning to keeping the FJ and buying a street toy instead.

    EDIT: Good video lol

    Yeah
We’re doing another Vinton county unmaintained rd ride and this one’s a few weeks out so I’m hoping more of y’all will be able to plan and make it out!

Saturday feb 12th at 10:30, we’re meeting at the Laurelvillle Sunoco which is the last gas station with good cell coverage, about 15min from the trails. We’ll roll out from there by 10:45 and plan to ride for several hours.

idk what to expect from the trail weather wise but assuming typical winter conditions at the minimum you need 33’s with a few inches of lift, a way to air back up (I can take on 1 or 2 more trucks if you don’t have AOB) and either lockers or a winch. Unless it warms up drastically a few days before I would expect slick conditions and I’ll have every bit of recovery gear I own.

You're temping me. I may have my truck torn apart then. Or may have a wife that won't be happy if I go... I'll try to make it, would like to explore a new area.

    Yeah
Looks like this is gonna be quite the group ride. Between the two Toyota (and 1 Subaru) FB groups I have this posted in we’ve currently got 11 yes’s and 15 or more maybes.
I encourage anyone to come out, it’s always fun to meet new off-roading folks, we’ve got a little bit of everything in our group (Dayton Ohio Toyota Off Road Enthusiasts) from new to the hobby 18 year old kids who will be on the trail for the first time to old veterans of the trail and everything in between. Don’t be scared to come because you don’t know us or the trails;come for the camaraderie, good times and a slight challenge.

    Never enough
If I wasn't working this weekend I'd 100% make the 3 hour drive to come meet up. Haven't been off road once since moving to Ohio. Hopefully I can catch the next group ride.

@Cereal_killer looks like there's no way my truck will be back together by the 12th so I can't make that ride. Keep us informed about future ones.

    Yeah
No problem man. I’ll of course continue to post about group rides, especially DOTORE group events, but we literally ride every weekend and often times more than that (the wife and I have a cabin down there, Jeep buddy lives down there, ranger buddy works with me and comes a bunch) so don’t hesitate to reach out to me when your truck is ready!

I’m actually starting to concentrate more on finishing my Subaru off road build so in the near future I’m gonna be spending even more time down there on some of the less challenging roads getting the shitbox dialed in lol. Hope to see ya soon!

Okay, I'm planning on coming. I work in Columbus Friday overnight and get off at 0700. I'll go get breakfast and then head down to Laurelville. I'll probably cut out around 1500-1600 to try and get back to work at 1630-1730 or so, sleep in my truck, shower in the locker room, and work again at 2300.

I have 32s and a 1" lift, Wildpeak AT tires, open diffs. Winch, traction boards, shovel, tow strap, snatch block, shackles. Portable air compressor. You think I'm good?

With that many people coming (yikes that's a lot) what kind of progress do you usually make? I normally figure each extra truck slows the group 5 minutes so this could be slow going...?

    Lunch on the trail or....?

Do you guys have comms? I have a 2m mobile and two 2m handhelds if needed...?

Anything specific I should bring other than above?

    Yeah
@MeefZah looks like you’ll be prepared, tired but prepared lol. Idk about everyone but my buddy and I use GMRS for comms (we’re licensed) and think a few others are as well. I have several spare HT’s if your radio can’t be easily programmed to GMRS frequencies.

Lunch on the trail. I like to bring a camp stove but with the larger turn out idk if I feel right frying myself up something while everyone else watches so I’ll probably just pack sandwiches or something quick and easy.

Im expecting this to run long (which is fine), the most UTD count is 10-12 rigs plus yourself so I don’t think we’ll be moving that quickly. I have 4 routes picked that should give a good mix of trail type and if we get through all 4 I’ll feel like we accomplished a lot.

One tool you didn’t mention that I don’t wheel without is a pick axe. They’re great for moving / dislodging rocks. I’ll have one but since you asked if there was anything else I thought I’d mention it.

I do not own a pick axe!

I will grab some Subway in the morning to take along.

Funny you say that I've brought a cutter mattock before, but stopped bringing it recently because it seemed out of place. Almost everytime I've brought it I used it. Very useful for digging and light axe work. I wouldn't mind getting a pulaski as I think it would do all the same jobs, but better.

@Cereal_killer If I am not up when you arrive, can somebody wake me up whenever you get to Sunoco? I will get down there pretty early after breakfast, like 0900 probably, and just sleep in the truck until you guys arrive. Don't forget me. White 3rd gen base Taco:

@Cereal_killer and some of his buddies let me and my friend Chaz tag along on their Tar Hollow ride today. Super fun. Was pretty challenging, I thought. Highly recommend some of you other fuckers take him up on his offer to explore that area. I'll do it again for sure.

I was quite pleased / impressed with the 4 cyl SR. Did everything the lifted and locked rigs did and in some cases I think it did it better! I didn't pull any winch cable...

Thanks Dan and Phil for leading, much appreciated.

Looks like you guys had a good time! That ice has me cringing just thinking about it. One of those rides where I'm constantly saying "This is my daily driver, where's the B line?"

I don't think anyone had "calling my insurance company" damage. I scratched up my passenger side on a tight wall that the trail camber throws you into, and I ripped off my trailer wiring connector. BFD...

I've seen your truck and driven with you. You'd been fine.

One person whose lifted, winch equipped, BFG AT equipped 4R was her daily left after the first 20 minutes at the first sight of carnage but I think if she'd stuck it out she would have been fine too.

There was for sure some technical stuff but as one guy observed: "nothing here is going to kill you"... We walked the rough stuff first and one guy offered line placement suggestions and helped people get through stuff.
