Well fellas, my wife wanted a Crosstrek so I sold the Taco to a guy in Sacramento who's doing a fly and drive on it this Tue.

Still got the modded 4R, natch...but I'm probably not going to be on here a whole lot unless summoned. Keep me in mind for wheeling or camping stuff though!

Also have a 6' Softopper for sale

Question for those who have replaced their u-joints and carrier bearing - what are your recommendations for manufacturer and greasable vs. non-greasable u-joint?

Thanks! I had looked at a few other threads, but I have found that being in Ohio versus Southern or Western states means lots of different experiences. An example would be my sway bar end links. I took a suggestion from a thread a couple years ago and picked up the ones from Napa. They were completely rusted over after the first winter and I barely drove the truck and had the undercarriage cleaned whenever I did. So I just thought I would ask this thread for their experience.

How do you like the Spicers?

@simplehuman so far so good. I don't daily drive my truck so they don't have a lot of miles on them. But I have taken them on a few wheeling trips and greased them a few times and no complaints.

I'm not sure why but I only replaced the front two, and it did not replace the one at the rear diff. My carrier bearing was also in good shape, so that's still OEM.

My carrier bearing is in pretty good shape too, but it has 100k miles and if I'm doing all the u-joints then I figure I may as well do that, too.

Just a heads up, in case you're planning to head out west to Arches, Canyonlands, and other national parks in the Moab area, makes sure you plan ahead... far ahead. The campsites in the parks go quickly. And by quickly, I mean milliseconds. Turns out Arches is the most sought-after campgrounds in the world (not sure how they track that). There's primitive and FCFS areas, but if you want an actual campsite with electric and access to some sort of bathroom, you'll need to be on your A-game to get a site. They open up six months in advance so start planning.

We have been planning our trip for over a year now and we're leaving at the end of May 2023. Two weeks and five national parks in SW Colorado and SE Utah. Putting some miles on!

Yeah they only let certain amounts of people in some of the parks a day. We were in arches Spring of 2021 and they would turn people away at the gate once they hit capacity. And that's just for people going through. Not even for camping.

Beautiful areas out there though. I can't wait to go back.

Yep. We've been watching the timed entry tickets, but they stopped the program.. for now. I'm wondering if they'll start it up again this spring and I'll have to scramble to get tickets. I already have my campsites. Would suck to be able to camp, bit not get around the park, lol.

Anyone interested in a set of Ironman 4x4 UCAs? These are the ones impacted by the ball joint recall so I suggest replacing the ball joint, but that's easy since they take OEM size joints. They have 4⁰ of caster so recommended if you have around 3" of lift. 2005+ years. Brand new, still in the box.

Selling them for only $250 since you'll want new ball joints. I'm in Worthington and meet in person within 10 miles.
