Do some work with Blackstone labs, or discuss them with a tribologist and come to your own conclusions.

My conclusion after doing that is they are not harmful, but not needed. Just another PTBarnum product.

I saw one of those Lucas displays in the auto store, you know, the one with two chambers with two gears in each chamber, one with Lucas and one without. Turn the gears on the Lucas side and the oil/Lucas mix clings to the gears very well. Turn the handle on the plain oil side and the oil drips off the gears almost immediately.

NOW turn the both set of gears as fast as you can. Maybe 120 rpm if you are fast. The plain oil side still drips off the gears as soon as you stop. The oil/Lucas side is full of foam from the Lucas in the oil.

The laws of physics teach us that you can compress a liquid very little at very high pressure. You CAN compress a foam. If you can whip foam in the oil/Lucas mix at 120 rpm, and the average engine idles at 500 rpm, what do you think the inside of your engine looks like with Lucas in the oil at 2000 rpm?

I volunteer to be in the control group- the one without the Lucas oil treatment.

I think you missed a class... take the reciprocal of the bulk modulus and you get k, which is compressibility.

And the compressibility of liquids and solids is very small. "The reciprocal of the bulk modulus is called the compressibility of the substance. The amount of compression of solids and liquids is seen to be very small."

I didn't miss any classes, did you?

Not what you said man. Re read your post. And, oil will compress 2% or so at 5,000 psi. Don't sound like much but when you are dealing with those pressures you had better know what you are doing. I do.

I'm not talking about 5K of pressure, so why are you? Perhaps 90 pounds of pressure in an auto engine before the bypass kicks in. The point I made was that the foaming oil with the Lucas additive WILL compress because it contains air. NO?

Lol just messing with you. You are correct, the air will compress and it will be a bad day.
In my world I design high pressure systems and fluids, along with many other things you wouldn't think about, are definitely compressible.

If compressibility were linear, considering 2%@5000 psi would give you a compression of approximately .00036% at 90 psi, unless I have my decimal place incorrect.

I don't put anything in the oil. Maybe if I had 250,000 on the OD and it was starting to get a little wonky I might through some snake oil in. When I get to 50K miles, I might add some Techron in the gas for a few tank fulls, (don't use Cheveron gas)

If you look at the additive package of each oil you will see that Supertech oil from walmart is better than even mobil one. I will provide lab test results below for proof, and yes they are done by an independent lab. They are also all in 5w-30 full synthetic.

The TBN on Supertech is very low.

Again, I have absorbed a lot of information on oils and fluids and synthetics over the years.
You can have a failure using the wrong viscosity.
You can have a failure using the wrong OCI.
You can have a failure using non certified oil.

But I have never, ever heard of a failure because of a brand of oil used as long as it's a name brand approved oil in the cortect viscosity.
