I've got a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR MT. As we all know, the motor is noisy, clicks and clacks that I mostly ascribe to the high pressure fuel pump. The noise was expected and I have no issue with it at all. Now, hold that thought.

My wife's car is a 2012 Subaru Forester, the normally asperated version. She's only put 60k miles on it over the past 12 years and most of that mileage is from short trips in town. I do change the oil every 6 months to try to minimize the damage that can creep up when a car isn't driven much. Two weeks ago I changed the Subaru's oil and I used Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20, the weight the manufacturer specifies for her car. From what I have read, that oil has been demonstrated to clean engine varnish and carbon buildup when used consistently over time. I figured it can't hurt. Though we haven't had any issues with the Subaru I have to believe its short-trip history has resulted is carboned-up rings.

What really surprised me is that the Subaru's motor got really quiet after that oil change. I did not expect that.

Anyway, I do my own oil changes on the Tacoma. I only have about 8k miles on it and I changed the oil and filter, for the third time, today. I am a believer in a short OCI. I had been using Costco 0w-20 synthetic. But this time, I went with the Valvoline Restore and Protect. It's way too early for varnish or carbon build up; but what the hell. I found some 5 quart jugs on Amazon for about 28 bucks each, so it won't break the bank. Damn but this Valvoline oil has really quieted down the Tacoma. You can still hear it clicking along but the volume is very obviously lower than it ever was. I can't pretend to explain it; but the difference was clear.

If you are nearing time for an oil change, give this new stuff a shot and tell us what you think!

Yeah. Wishful thinking I guess. Thanks. I fixed it.

Different oil won't change the noise made by injectors, physically has nothing to do with it. Could be placebo, but glad to hear that it's helped out!

    Lmao
On a more serious note, I have the opposite observation. Both of my vehicles, the engines seem to get quieter when I’m nearing the end of my OCI.

    Doesn’t a 2023 take 6+ quarts?
