Fail! Leave in the amsoil. You already paid for it, don't drop it yet. It most likely isn't hurting anything if it's just a little tick. I would run it for at least 500 miles to let the oil break in and work.

I use amsoil 0-30 signature oil the coldest weather I see is low 20's.
Let me know if the noise goes away when you put Mobil in.

I believe it something else. I use amsoil too and never had problem. 0-30w is what I run here in Ga and it might get down to 15 sometimes here but I've never had or heard of amsoil making a truck or car tick just be changing the oil. Leave it in bc that oil is like 11.00 a qt and that filter is bout 14.00 without mine discount. Run it if the sound doesn't go away I'd have the truck checked out.

Heck yeah, I used 10w-30 Castrol GTX in my '92 for 12 years before I sent it out to pasture in Mexico. That 22R was the last of a long line of great engines. I'm restoring a 1st gen Celica with a 20R, run the same oil in it.

I lived in Austin when I had an '04 and used 10w-30 in that as well. It rarely drops into the 30's there and 5w just didn't seem right. Kinda like sugar-free syrup on pancakes, I just couldn't do it.

Like some have said, if you are switching brands, give it some time and stick with it, it will quiet down eventually. Use the same oil EVERY time. Some crazy people run Amsoil for 15K miles with only filter changes each 5K. Nothing wrong with Mobil 1 (I use Syntec), just stick with whatever you choose.

Did you do the flush before you drained it and put the amsoil in? Amsoil created that flush so that it cleans the motor so the amsoil can lube the motor correctly. If not I'm not sure what it would hurt not using it but don't take it out. Let me know I you keep having that sound. I'll get with my amsoil rep about

Where did you get the oil from they shouldve sold you the flush at the same time since you were a first time user. Amsoil's site shows you all you need from flush and oils and filters. Run the amsoil. Check the oil levels and you should be ok.

did you fill the filter with oil before installing it? if not, perhaps the noises came from the dryness of that first start. I was told to fill my oil filters with new oil before installing them ( a pita on this truck with the filter location). I dont have any evidence other than anecdotal evidence to back that theory up.

like the others said, switching oil brand isn't your issue. i'm not sure if i overlooked it, but is the truck still making noises? is it only on startup, constant, when it's warmed up...?

my '02 has 232k miles and all oil changes were with conventional oil:eek:. i've never has any issues.
