I used pennzoil motor oil in past 4 cyl. toyota engines i've had, but stopped when i bought the tundra...was told by my mechanic buddy to go with mobil 1 in it. You'll get quicker winter starts when you go to canada on your snowmobile vacations. I was pretty happy with it, and been using it ever since. I buy it when on sale at wally world. I'll probably do the same for the tacoma when its time. You stick with what works. I think when it comes to these synthetic motor oils your splitting hairs anyway. As far as pennzoil being cheaper...i looked at it when i was in our walmart last month, yeah, about $3-4 less than m1....is it really that much better? idk

I agree with the splitting hairs statement, but IMHO the winter start thing is not correct one to the other. This is in the weight of the oil, not the brand. As to the price, you usually can't find the Ultra Platinum on the store shelf and the better price is with free shipping both through Walmart.com & Amazon.com.

Like with most things the diff does very day to day etc... I picked up 6, 5qt jugs $6.00 cheaper per jug than I have ever found M1 from Amazon a few weeks ago. Again both are great motor oils, one is consistently cheaper, and has proven to be superior through testing with more consistency in its makeup than the other. You can't go wrong either way for sure.

I should of said the mobil1 5w-30 synthetic over regular 5w-30 motor oil when cold starting. The trucks starter spun the mobil synthetic like summer in the -20 temps vs the standard 5w-30 motor oil the truck came with which made the engine starter sound like it was churning molasses.

The 2.7L 4 cylinder fortunately takes a regular oil filter.
