Next you are going to take a picture of a valvoline oil change reminder sticker as proof of the 3k mile oil change requirement.

Why do I have to provide proof, exactly? You are the one making the absurd claim that the owners manual is wrong. The proof is on you bub. You havent done that yet. Why dont you look at all of the blackstone reports for this vehicle? There are a bunch on here showing that actual scientific analysis shows these engines can easily do 10k intervals. Is Blackstone "real facts" enough for ya?

I don't see the point of arguing. Is your truck do whatever you want.
I use ONLY AMSoil 5W-30 before between 7500-10000 miles. That was before converting to electric since is a PRO...:)

Dude, you do live in Maine. Even if you never idle your truck to warm it up, never take a quick trip to the store, never haul any weight, driving in the winter is absolute hell on everything. If you don't think that you live in a harsh environment, than your are in complete denial. No wonder why you don't think the majority of people drive in severe conditions.

How do I know this much about Maine? I've lived here my entire life. I also have worked in the automotive aftermarket my entire adult career. It is my business to know to know these things and educate people on them.

It does a community no good to have misinformation and opinion be mistaken as facts.

I'm done anyway. It's apparent he is greatly misinformed if he doesn't think Maine is rough on every part of a vehicle.

I do not drive my truck in a plastic bag with temp, humidity, particulate controls, Idle to warm up,many short trips,Cold temps,,hammer down at times, low range actually used. Only thing missing are desert dust storms. Change it after 500 miles,5000 miles and every 5000 miles thereafter. Simple to remember: Maint on the 5's. If you drive in ideal conditions then maint on the 10's is appropriate.May bee your GF or wife uses hers to go back and forth to work on the highway for a 30 mile round trip and that is all she uses it for so the 10's will be just fine for her. Not me for sure and probably not anyone on this forum.

I am going to put an end to this useless thread and all the trolls and self acclaimed experts by stating that I will now change my oil every 1,000 miles and use dirty diesel oil from a UPS delivery van!

Oil threads should be about common sense . If you drive in the desert on sand and put on 500 miles a year , you do not wait 20 years to change your oil to get to 10,000 miles . At the same time if you change the oil and leave the truck stored for a year , you do not need to change the oil when you return because a year went by . I believe everyone can make up their own minds and decide without being ridiculed for not following some engineers recommendation for the average truck. Only the owner knows how their truck was used .

Why does the 2017 Toyota hilux use 5w 30. I thought Hilux and Tacoma were almost the same truck.

Manufacturer and dealer mandate the frequency and miles between oil changes while under warranty.

    Couple of points:

1 - Nowhere in their statement about towing did it say "most of time".
2 - It doesn't make any recommendation if you are driving in conditions where more than one of these apply.
3 - I don't understand the saving money aspect. You are paying Blackstone for the analysis, are you not? Each time you change?

    1. Did you miss this part of the statement? "They specify Perform these service items only if you drive primarily under the conditions indicated."
    2. Not sure if that is relevant. If you drive under any combination of these conditions PRIMARILY then change your oil at 5k or less intervals
    3. No I dont send it to blackstone. Enough other people have done so just here on these forums that I am happy to wait 10k with my normal driving habits.

I'll start by saying that the dealer I leased my car from put a sticker on saying to come in for my first oil change at 5k miles or 6 months.

Next, a couple questions that come to mind are how expensive is an oil change for this truck and how difficult is it to do yourself? Personally, as long as nothing is messed up I don't know of any vehicle that has a particularly difficult oil change, especially a truck that you don't have to lift. I am also of the mindset that I would rather do it sooner than later and keep the engine running better for longer. I know on new cars and synthetic oil it makes a very small difference, but is $100 every six months worth risking an engine and performance loss over? To me, no but I realize not everyone shares this thought and I usually end up setting my intervals early so that I can push it off if I need so I can do it at a more convenient time.

Toyota recommends a 10k mile change. How is that a risk? A risk would be doing it every 15k miles. Its only a risk because you are used to older vehicles

I'm not saying you should run 20k miles but I have no doubts a good oil will last 10k even with some of what Toyota calls severe conditions
