I've seen them in plenty of Toyota axles. I've never really thought about how they stay in. I would assume the 3rd has a prevision somewhere on it to hold it in place. I've never had one rub the axle to my knowledge....

    Why do you ask?

I always pushed them back onto the housing.. Never had one make noises. Sorry, I'm not much help... Shouldn't be too hard to pull the shafts out and pull the 3rd. One was rubbing, you should be able to see where it was rubbing.

They are kind of spring loaded. There is a small tab top and bottom that holds them inplace. You can bend the wings to make them fit tighter.

Anybody have a part number for the oil baffle??

Edit: local Toyota said I’d have to buy a new axle to get one ... what a bargain.

Do you have a part number? I had to send my local Toyota a photo because they didn’t know exactly what I was referring to

    Update:

After being persistent and convincing the parts person at toyota to lookup a TSB for a tundra for this baffle, she was able to find it. Funny thing is that TSB called it a "rear differential axle housing oil baffle" and after she looked it up using the TSB, she called it a "deflector"

General part number without providing my VIN is - Differential Drive Pinion Oil Deflector (Rear) Part Number: 4213935021

Hope this helps someone in the future
