just think back to the 90s. my dad was running the cheapest oil and filter every chance he got. i inherited that car with 240k miles, it was running great, no oil burning.

just change it once a year and you good.

I wait for Pennzoil 10-12 dolar per jug rebate and run that. Pick it up for $22 at walmart or Amazon and get 5qt jugs for $13 each. Cant beat that.

Any brand oil is fine as long as it’s the same weight . Just get what’s on sale that’s what I do since I change out every 5k . If you want to go to 10k then go Toyota oem oil .

I ha e the dealership do it. I have them do the oil change and tire rotation every 8k and use the toyota oil and the non trd filter as it's not really worth the extra cost. 10k is too stretched and 5k is just wasting money imo. I gwt the tire rotation, oil change and filter for 70$.

Bought my 22 I’m December of 22. I just passed 54k miles. My usage since April makes the severe category in the manual look like pre-school. I’ve used anything I can find from 0/20 to 0/40 as I’m already 10 oil changes in. Put a gash in my oil pan when a metal fence post buried in mud found it’s way over the side of my front skid plate. Lost a quart before I found a village about 5 hours north of Nome. Only thing they had was 10/30 dino after we dropped and patched the pan. Ran fine all the way up to the north slope and then back down to anchorage where I got a new pan at Kendall Toyota.

I’ve used my truck hard since April. No going wheeling for a weekend or a week then back home to a garage. I’ve been going for 40k plus miles. I’ve used any oil I could find for oil change and any fluid I could find for front and rear diffs. I brought two quarts of Toyota fluid for the xfer case. Those have all been changed.

I’ve been in 4hi a ton, one time for almost 7 days straight. Slogged through mud in 4lo for over 52 miles on a detour off the Alaskan highway. I’ve used my truck to its limit. Only thing I did before I left was Geolandar G03 tires in 255/85/16. Totally stock. These trucks don’t suck. If you don’t like how it shifts use s mode. I’ve been in s mode for almost 6 months straight from the time I wake up till I sling a hammock and go to sleep. There is a good amount of power and torque, you need rpms to get it. Only wish I had one thing on this trip: Marlin Crawler Taco Box.

Use what you can find if you’re not at home. It will work. Fresh oil is the best oil. New dino oil is better than old oil. If your at home running to the mall and across town you shouldn’t even be asking this question. Just my opinion.

And @bigoldbeef, I’m coming after your mileage record.

I had a Toyota parts department salesperson tell me that they use Mobil 1 in the service department recently.

Anyone have any experience getting oil changes done at the walmart auto centers? They are advertising $50 for the first five liters so I am guessing it would be about $75 all said and done, which seems not bad imo considering not having to deal with it, oil discard, sourcing stuff, etc. Thoughts?

Just like getting it done at any other quick oil change place. Price seems about on par too.

Probably depends on the dealer. Mine used mobil1 extended. It's what I continued to used.

4 oil changes delivered to my door under 100 bucks with free shipping.

Now back in the day the brand of oil you used made a difference, but with all the ratings manufacturers have to meet now it really doesn't.

Don't overthink it, just change it @ whatever mileage fits your driving.

I just use whatever oil I can get now for the best price/value. Usually it's been Supertech but I've got Shell Rotella gas truck on clearance in quarts really cheap. I used to be a huge Castroil fan boy but I've got to the place where I only care it the oil meets the vehicle specs. So far super tech has been good.
The most important things are that you keep it full and change it often enough to keep it clean and use a decent quality filter.

When I asked, the parts rep came out with a jug of the stuff and it was black with red and white. Literally said Toyota full synthetic. The TRD and non trd oil filters same thing except the beefier looking trd filter was a little bigger in size. My dealer is in mid Ohio. My cleveland dealer it was the same thing. Never tried any other toyota dealers for service.

I run with Amsoil Signature Series Full Synthetic and TRD OEM Filters. Also send samples off to blackstone labs for test to get objective feedback on the OTIs.
