    It does look like it us water or fuel mixed in. If it was oil only sludge, I would think it would be solid burnt looking black.

    Yes. Lady came in to the dealership once with her 2014 chevy trax that was showing low oil level... she never changed it from new to 63'000kms so it burnt all the oil that it had in that time. This was also back when the dexos oil spec was not synthetic oil. It was black varnish and sludge etc. However a fresh oil change and the engine still ran fine with proper oil pressure and compression. i'm sure the engine life was significantly shorted but not much we could do warranty wise for her there other than strongly suggest she never do that again and for the next several oil changes she run synthetic oil and change it every 5000kms tops
