Truck has 124000 miles. Same dealer has been doing the oil changes for free.

Good idea though. Will mark the tires and the filter prior to next visit

Yeah.. I used to drive 30 miles one way to work. Then l moved and it was only 25 miles one way.. I wouldn't even know what to do if l was close to my job. I love driving my truck. You'd think those 28 miles would burn that off. But l could be wrong. I've never had it in my truck.

Totally normal! Plenty of threads regarding this. My truck has it as well.

Caused by short trips in cold weather. The moisture builds up near the cap because the plastic filler tube doesn't get hot enough to evaporate the condensation. Wipe all that stuff out when you change the oil.

Definitely not a head gasket issue- as long as the oil is coming out clean from the drain plug you are good.

I have seen a lot of these post and can’t figure why this doesn’t happen to me. I drive less than 6 miles a day, under 40mph and live in a cold climate. The only thing I do that is not mentioned, is burn top tier gas. Regular at that. Never, that cheap chit.( just google top tier gas) Other than that ,I just don’t see that slime and have no clue why you guys are.

I don’t buy, your not driving long enough distance stuff. I’m not driving long distance at high speeds by any means.

Did you mention the type of oil you are using? I use BJ's or Sunoco Gas regular only. I get that milky stuff ocasionally. I drive each way about 3-4 miles at 35-40 max. Matbe it's a synthetic oil thing?

Hmm.. I have used M1 5-30 too and I seem to remember noticing it. I've never used conventional oil and I'm now just about at 60K. I wonder if it could be a product of E10 fuel, or winter blend gas?

:mudding:Condensation in the lubrication system due to short trips or stop and go traffic. Engine oil not reaching operating temperature and the condensation is not boiling off and being pulled out by the PCV system. You should have also noticed that your fuel mileage has also went down.

With Direct Fuel Injected engines only Top Tier gasoline is recommended to prevent intake manifold and intake valve carbon deposit build-up. Also, cold weather driving is considered by all automotive manufacturers to be severe operation and the engine oil should be changed more frequently. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended change intervals.

Not a long enough drive in miles for your engine to reach operating temperature.

Get those engines up to operating temps. Short trips more so in cold weather will do that.

Others have mentioned that this is normal. So I not piling on that. I'll just say this.

I put about 300 miles a week on my rig. About 2/3rds of that is highway driving at about 70 mph. My OC regiment is M1 5/30 every 5k.

Even with lots of highway driving and 5k OCI's on what is considered at least a decent synthetic oil...I get some of this build up....a mix of oil with and bit of moisture.

Here's my theory. Most vehicles have the oil filler cap on the valve cover. But the 1GR's oil cap is on an extension pipe.

What happens when moisture is heated? It tries to rise. Well, that extension pipe off the valve cover gives a place for the moisture, that isn't burned off during combustion, to go.

Result? A bit of muck in the pipe and cap. Shorter trips can make it more pronounced.

No issues, no head gaskets. Relax
