Even the best oil gets darker shortly after a change

Its slightly darker than when it when in, but no where near as dark as the stuff that was in it from the dealership after 5k.

    Hi all.
So I did a careful comparison of hot and cold oil levels.

    1 - Cold - after sitting overnight
2 - Hot - 30 minutes after engine was at full temperature

The oil level read 1/8 inch higher when hot.

My 4.0 liter dipstick is 1 1/8 (9/8) inch and 1 1/2 liters between the add and full.
So the 1/8 inch difference is 1/6 of a liter out of the 5.2 liters in the system.
Is that enough difference to worry about - probably not but since I will continue to check my oil after sitting overnight, I will shoot for 1/8 inch below the full mark.

    Cheers

At about 1/2 inch over filled on dip stick you get into aeration issue. That's bad!!!!!! 1/8 inch, hot I wouldn't worry.

Side note, switched from mobil1 after almost 20 to Pennz Platinum, never looked back!

I've been taking mine to the dealer for the free oil changes they offered for the first year. They have been using synthetic 0w20 each change and I plan to follow in their foot-steps to keep it all the same. Bought some a a 5 quart jug plus a 1 quart bottle. Wondering though if I should go to 5w30 instead tho

Also bought a Fumoto Valve for next time I do my oil change. Heard some pretty good things, mostly want it b/c I always manage to make a mess in the drive way

I have a fumoto as well, but its in a drawer till I can get some real skid protection underneath. I can't wait till I can do an oil change without covering myself, my wrench and somehow always miss the oil pan.
