With what? What are you trying to achieve? It’s not going to prolong the life of your engine.

When this guy talks I try to listen. He knows a thing or two about our trucks. Granted this is from the 4banger thread but all the same for long-term reliability.

I'm close to 250k. Certainly would keep things cleaner than without. Maybe i don't want to burn off water and oil if short money can prevent it.

I always have plenty of time while the fumoto drains so no problem emptying on the regular.

Also they cost less than $50 and an hour of my time.

Dodge 5.7 hemi owners would disagree. Some variants of that engine created enough oil vapor it would literally puddle in the intake manifold.
Some tuners were even observing reduced timing since oil has a lower octane than gasoline.

I think most of the guys that have them installed offroad hard and climb really steep hills. If you get on a long enough and steep enough climb they help prevent motors stalling or blowing black smoke.

Catch cans are like the "miracle" supplements you see advertised on TV and use the same marketing and social media strategy. They say they do great things, then below in the extra fine print say "results not typical". Lots of anecdotes from who knows who. Zero official testing to show safety and effectiveness for a given condition. But they don't cost much and don't waste too much of your time, so people say what the heck, why not? If that's you, then go for it.

My 4-banger is 8 years old with over 120k miles and doesn’t use or lose a quart between changes so I see no need to catch what little blow by might exist and prevent it from going elsewhere. If you go through oil at a high rate there’s a chance this could help prevent other issues but it won’t correct that one.

You would not get any actual benefit from an oil catch can. They were made for GDI engines due to carbon build up as fuel isn't injected through the ports. Our tacoma's for Gen 2 are port injected for both the 4 cylinder and V6 so the injectors spraying fuel will dissolve any carbon build up on the valves. The 3rd Gen V6 tacoma is GDI so an oil catch can is useful for it but not for 2015 and below. Save your money for something else. If you are losing oil I would see if your tacoma is burning oil or leaking from somewhere.

Catch cans have been used for a LONG LONG time before gdi.

Curious but relevant, how many miles on the engine? Have you ever replaced or verified that the PCV valve is functioning correctly, especially during cold starts.
If the valve is sticking when cold, your blowby you suspect may be a result of the crankcase getting slightly pressurized, and forcing the oil more easily into the top end.

The catch can acts more as a trap, to lessen or prevent oil being drawn into the intake plenum, where it should ultimately be consumed by combustion. Adding a catch can in your situation to resolve this semi intermittent oil consumption seems a bit moot. I would try a new PCV valve or clean the one you currently have, and verify proper operation of the valve.

Exactly. That is a Proper system. Which costs more.

One thing you can do to mimic that, is install a Mann ProVent 200, tap house routing drain back, with an in-line one way fluid valve, and their filters are replaceable.
But that setup is like $300+ vs. screwing in a $30 Pepsi Can from Autozone which offers none of the above functions

If you are local I would probably trade you mine for your hoses to revert to stock
to prevent running into issues with smog stations complaining anything on the truck deviates from the norm and does not have the magical Toyota emblem on it

apparently collecting a small quantity of water and oil to recycle at a later date, worsens the emissions of these extremely efficient trucks
