Oil contamination was a problem on older cars and trucks where the PCV was the culprit . You would see oil oil / carbon build up in the valve pockets , heads of EA valve and top of the pistons . This would cause hot spots that could allow spark knock

You need this as a replacement for a PCV

I don't know - I have some airline tubing with a can of easy cheeze hooked up to the PCV valves in all my vehicles. I'm not sure if it does much beyond giving me some peace of mind.

IMHO they are more important for direct injection engines as the valves arnt getting a fuel bath. They are the most important in direct injected turbo motors because they can and do help prevent LSPI (low speed pre ignition) which is caused in part by oil additives igniting under the compression and heat of the combustion chamber before its supposed to...and great way to blow a piston.

    With a 2.7...you don't need one
    With a 3.5...you probably don't need one

With a ford eco boost...i wouldn't be without one. But id never buy an eco boost to begin with

Reality is that if they were necessary...the vehicles would come with them from the factory.

    YMMV

I’m not convinced catch cans are absolutely necessary, but these are my results. The bottle with more oil is 16400 miles on my RAM with a 5.7 Hemi. The bottle with the small amount of oil is from my Tacoma with 6000miles. I usually empty the catch cans every 3000 miles. The majority of the miles on the RAM are highway miles with some towing. The Tacoma is mixed city/highway.

Never had any issues with oil sloshing around. I'd put one in if I was hitting trails every weekend, but she's my daily and 99% street princess lol we mallcrawl on weekends. But you are right though!

You mean the way they "over ruled the user" with the engine and trans coding? Or the clutch accumulator, or the reverse gearing, or etune, or the harmonic imbalance that causes intermittent shakes and vibrations.... etc.

Dont be such an irrationally biased fanboi overlooking design flaws, bad engineering, and poor decisions. It comes accross as overcompensation to cover buyers remorse denial and refusal to let anyone think you made a bad purchase decision.

Yes i love my truck, but i am not delusional about its shortcomings.

On the lycomings, just got to leave out the last quart of engine oil... otherwise it is coming right out of the breather and all over the belly on the first half hour... seriously, if people dont want it to go back in the engine, why put it back in the engine?

Just throw it overboard, or run it thru the can then throw it overboard... anybody know of any way the engine would catch that you replaced PCV valve and was just venting overboard?
