There's a fresh air side and the crankcase vapor side. The side in your pic looks like the fresh air side.

If it bothers you I don't see how a small catch can there could cause issues? On my Cobra for years I've run water separators made for air compressors to keep the intercooler clean. They work but that was also before the market was flooded with cheap catch cans.

It's an 01 with the blower from an 03. So pretty much. But right, I did it just for the intercooler. Wasn't worried about the valves or oil in the intake.

Sir - I believe you may be mistaken. Did a little googling to remind myself. It's documented that when driving on a steep incline (when wheeling - say 35 degrees), our trucks smoke. This also happens with certain Jeeps. The commonly known fix is to add an oil catch can, which according to those who have, fixes the issue.

*temporarily*. once the catch can is full it'll start pumping that oil back into the intake again.

Which is why you regularly empty said catch can...

Good point, but either way... in the case of driving on inclines, there appears to be sufficient evidence to conclude that using a catch can reduces risk (compared to not using a catch can). Regardless of the presence forced induction.

All good man. I'm new here, but have owned and built 30 vehicles in the past 20 years, many of which are high performance Toyotas (Supra TT; GTE-Swapped SC400) and Toyota trucks/SUVs. I think its hilarious when people take a baseless stance in either direction (on so many things - not just catch cans). It's complete nonsense - mostly from individuals with ZERO first-hand experience.

some of them have a breather filter (on line stuff), wouldn't that filter cause issues?

Yeah. A global issue it seems. Only way to reverse the trend is to have conversations with people. Hold their hand and metaphorically walk them down the path until they realize their idea or thought or whatever is flawed. Or have a conversation and change your own opinion too.

I never understood that either. Unless there's some weird check valve or a different application

Yes, it's a service item at that point. My moms Volvo had one and it got plugged up (at well under 100K miles). It caused pressure to build up and the engine started to leak oil out of the front main seal (and maybe other spots) after that. I changed the PCV setup for her but said just add oil I'm not do the front main.

I'm sure that's one of many reasons the factory doesn't add them. The potential headaches (maintenance for average person) outweigh the benefits.

Mine didn't take several minutes or excessive throttle. It was at least 30* though

hmm, I put this truck through it's paces and never had a smoking issue. I've seen low oil pressure a ton but never smoke.
