    Many coming
Cessna aircraft uses those to let the oil go back into the pan, The rest is vented into the air stream- But they use crap green hoses that sweat oil And it sticks to the back of the engines......

Alot of us do our own oil changes and we just empty it into the used oil container.

I've had a catch can for a few years now, probably 30k+ miles. It catches a lot of moisture in the winter months, I empty it every two weeks or so. Based on that I can see how having one can be a bad idea for a typical driver. You will cause a lot more problems with an overfilled can then just running the stock setup.

i empty mine every 10k oil change and it has maybe 1/2"-3/4" of oil vapor in it. Hardly an issue for your daily driver if they check it every year or so. Its possible once your truck reaches 10 years and loosens up you will accumulate more vapor than a newer engine

I empty a few ounces of goo from the catch can at 5K mi or 6 months when I change the oil. Not much, but I like to do everything I can to take care of the truck.

Hate to revive an old thread, but couldn’t find an actual answer searching here or google. With the JLT catch can, the right side (so the “T” on the logo is the hose from the pcv valve and the left side (nipple by the “J” on the logo) goes back into the intake. Is that the correct routing? Does it really matter? Is the top of the can actually directional some how with a check valve?

its not a check valve and i doubt it matters its jut a catch for oil / water droplets which are heavier than air

    Tag for future reference.
Anyone done this on a 3rd Gen 2.7?
Or have a link for em?

We had plenty of fuel /water issues on 113,s and fuel seepage issues into their blowers/ oil pan mostly from felt composite seepage rings at the bottom of cylinders long ago during my 1st 4 yrs being mech Infantry at Carson and in Germany.
Germans at Mainz depot making a killing replacing those seepage rings on the 6v53,s .
Give em a fresh paint job, slap a mainz rebuild tag on em and charge unca suga gawd knows how much...
All from consistent AOAP test failures....
    Fuel in the oil...
    Mech world suuked......

Thank God I was handed the option of 11B or 11M CMF when I was a young E5 in 88 going to Hood.
Go to 41st in 2ad and become 11M or go to one of the Cav task forces in 1st Cav and be 11B.
Let me have that Cav patch pleeeeeease.
    Lol!!!

This seperator is good stuff either way..
    Can't hurt that's for sure.
    For 30 or 40 bucks.
    Easy choice to make...

So, is a catch can required for both sides or just the driver side. I know that there are two banks but I remember reading somewhere that the passenger side doesn't really vent much and the driver side vents primarily. or is there a kit that does both sides?

Nope. It isn’t side dependent, it’s PCV dependent. Attach one to each PCV you have.

I just picked up my tacoma last month and I've had catch cans on a few cars I've had and was thrown off when people were mentioning driver and passenger side haha!

The PCV valve itself is the check valve ;) The catch can just slows down the vapor so the oil comes out of suspension. JLT seems want the can oriented the way you described it: https://www.jlosc.com/content/instructions/3104D.pdf

But I believe it also has a CCV which sometimes people put a catch can on.
