Tow package includes an engine oil cooler.
There's a "donut" sandwiched under the filter with a couple of hoses going to it.

If I remember correctly from changing the timing belt on my Tundra's 4.7, the cooler does not add significant capacity... it's actually coolant that is brought to the filter base and circulates around the oil passing to and from the filter. It's not a separate finned cooler or internal radiator cooler like the trans cooler.

I just did a change on my son's 2011 4.0 v6 with Mobil 1 high mileage 5-30 and OEM filter. The dealer changed 4,200 miles ago and I drained out only 4 quarts. I added 5 quarts + 1 cup and from the dipstick it appears to be over by a cup. Any one else see 5 quarts as proper full or am I crazy:)

OEM Toyota, Bosch and WIX/Napa are all top quality filters and within $1 and change from each other as far as price is concerned. I order a couple at a time (OEM) via the Toyota parts website and the local participating dealer in my town, select "pick-up at counter" and pay about $5.50 each. It beats the prices at Wally World. If I order early in the morning I usually get the "ready for pickup" email by noon. I never order the gaskets because the parts guys throw them in. Toyota-branded oil is all supplied by Mobil1. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. If Wally World is out of the one I want, I just grab a jug of Valvoline or Castrol synthetic.

Before I made my 4.0 Tacoma a 6-quart capacity, mine took 5.5 quarts to fill to the upper dipstick line. If it's not using oil I don't think I'd return to that dealer.
Reagan, trust but verify. Should have pulled the dipstick to verify the correct fill 4,200 miles ago.
