I have always used fully synthetic oil and change it at 7500 miles. However, the indicator light comes on at 5000 miles. Is there a way to change the interval light from 5K to 7.5K? I'm sure this question has been asked and answered, so I apologize in advance for asking again.

    No.

    Not by mere mortals anyway.

The 'option' I use is running synthetic oil and doing 10k OCIs. When the light comes on at 5k, I just clear it till the next time.

    Easy peasy.

Nope there is no way to change it.

That stated I run synthetic and run standard 5k OCI's. Over the course of 300k miles thats 60 oil changes. At 7.5k OCI thats 40 oil changes. Cost of 20 oil changes = 5 bucks for a filter and 25 for a jug of oil = 600 bucks over 300k.

Not worth the 600$ risk IMO.

    TLDR; Just do 5k OCI.

So the funniest thing - slightly related...Could it be tied to vehicle starts AND mileage? My CEL blinked like it does within 500 miles of the 5000 OCI....but then I drove only about 100 miles; then parked the truck due to flashing 4x4/4Lo lights - but did lots of start-tops as I checked things. Then the CEL came on and stayed on over the weekend; impossible that i went 500 miles. Thought it is possible I just missed seeing it flash earlier, though...I am positive I wouldn't miss it.

I change the filter every 5k and oil every 10k. I run 5k miles, change the filter and add about 1/4 of a quart to recoup the amount lost in the filter and losses of any other kind. Then at 10k miles I change the oil AND the filter. Mobile 1 full synthetic high mileage. 185k miles on the clock.

OEM. I bought a pack of them (I think it was 6 or 8?) and just grab one off the shelf when I need it. I also swapped the drain plug for a fumoto drain valve. Oil changes are totally brainless now.

Synthetic or not. Change every 5k

You have lab tests that show your oil is toasty?

Or do you have another criteria?

Can I guess this one? I’m going to go with because at 5k he knows it’s still good but wants to put in new anyway because that’s the maintenance schedule that gives him peace of mind. Was I close? Or maybe he just feels like it because changing oil is fun.

I think my favorite thing about the interval threads, and it always happens, is how pissed off people get about other people changing their oil “early”. You’d think they’d stolen something from everyone else.

LOL! I like that Billy :) Mobil 1, good to go.

Changing oil is fun, Tom. I've only got 18k on my truck. Technically, I only needed to change 3x by now, LOL! I'm around 20x now.:)

    Simple answer is No.

    Long answer is probably.
I mean, there’s people out there that could probably hack the ECU and change the distance.
But they’re probably too busy hacking into a corporate network and demanding a ransom.

I suppose I’ll jump in on the oil change topic. I mean my opinion matters, Right?

I say, “Change the oil when ever you want to. It’s your truck.”

If it was based on starts or partially on starts the interval would be all over the place...

In my experience (and as stated in the owners manual) it is based solely on mileage.
