I asked one of my buddies yesterday if he would look at my brakes for me. I've noticed the last couple of days with the window down they start to squeak when I'm almost at a stop not when I'm driving 35-45 mph and press the brake its only when I'm about to stop. So he said he would and I also asked him if he would change the oil for me and he said he would of course. I asked him how much do I need and what kind I should buy. I've been taking it to a local Citgo put I give them a Toyota oil filter when they get in the truck. My buddy said get a 5 qt of Havoline oil in 10W-30 he said or whatever the oil filler cap says. I know he knows what hes doing and him and his dad has always worked on cars and trucks. He said he has always used Havoline and we he tore an engine down years ago it was still clean on the inside, so he like Havoline. I told him that I've got the lug nut key and he said you know what I would do? He said I would go to toyota or anywhere and get me 4 regular lug nuts and put them on instead of having to keep up with the lug nut key and someone loosing it.

So is this all I need to take him:
    5qt of oil
I've already got a Toyota oil filter from where I bought a couple a while back. Also, to reset the maint reqd light after the oil change how do I do that? I don't have a manual.

You have a Off Road Tacoma so you have the 4.0L V6, you need 5.5 quarts of 5W-30 oil. To reset the Maintenance light, hold in the trip reset button, turn the key on, let the dashes on the odometer go down till you see the mileage, turn off key.

I've got right at 76,000 miles on it I believe, would any of you go synthetic or just stay conventional? Most of my driving is city and we try to drive it on the weekends on the highway when we go somewhere or just out riding in the country. So I'm thinking if most of my driving is city then I should do an oil change every 3,000 miles anyway.

Recommended change is 5000 on the 4.0 I think.
Going to syn. and changing at 3000 is not worth the expense.

I just didn't know how "hard" I was on the oil since I'm in town instead of getting it out on the highway everyday.
