I'm at a crossroads with should I or don't worry about it. I'm about 3,000 miles in from my last oil change and I'm going on a trip in 2 weeks and I'll put about 1300-1500 miles on the truck. Should I go ahead and have the oil changed before my trip or just get it changed when I get back?

I've changed my oil every 5000 miles since the truck was new. I've never gone more than 5500. 195k on the truck so far and no issues...

    Don't overthink it

Just get it when you get back. When I drove from VA to CO I just did the oil change in CO that was about 1800 miles. You change oil every 10k anyway

Thanks!! I'm driving a Toyota now and not a Chevy. I sometimes forget that!

You'll be good. I usually change my oil in the spring and in the fall. Sometimes another time in between.

Change it after you get back that way if you mess something up changing the oil, like not putting the drain plug on properly or forgetting a new crush washer, it will be local and not on the road causing stress... etc.

Worry about all the shit you're going to forget to bring... change the oil later.

    10k - (3k + 1.5k) = 5.5k

According to Toyota, and the Blackstone analysis done by some members, you are not even half way to your next change.

Yes, I've done Blackstone. 10k OCI on synthetic oil is good to go. 3k is outdated dino oil talk

youll be fine....we change our oil WAY too frequently......modern synthetic engine oil will EASILY last 10K in most vehicles.

I do mine at 10,000 mile intervals which is what the manual says to do. Unless you’re trekking through the Sahara dessert at 5kRPM the whole way or through Antarctica while towing then you don’t need to change the oil.
