I am OCD about how many miles I have on my engine oil, but also aware of the extra cost of replacing the oil/filter often. I was thinking about a cost effective way to have cleaner oil in the engine- This last oil change I used Supertech Synthetic ($14.88) and skipped the filter. Would fresh oil every 3,000-3,500 miles extend the life of the filter?

*Just realized that "technical" was not the appropriate section to post this. Apologies!

Change every 5k and you’ll be fine. My 02 changed every 5k went 500k no issues before I bought my 2015

5k is fine, especially with synthetic. The 3.4 is a tank and I've never seen a lubrication failure.

I knew one person never changed the oil just changed the filter every 3000 miles they figured as long as the filter never went to bypass all was good.

It comes down to your vehicle do things as you want

I would just adjust the interval for oil and filter change to 4k

I was doing 4k intervals. I am sure 5k intervals are fine, too, but feel like a high quality filter would go to 8k miles no problem. I'm just really anal about clean oil because synthetic is so cheap nowadays (cheap insurance). I want to stick to 3-3.5k intervals, but trying to save some money on the filter side. All I need is confirmation that 2 oil intervals per 1 filter interval is A-ok lol.

Changing your oil every 3000 miles no matter what type of oil you use is a complete waste of money and time. And changing the filter every other time you will only save a few bucks, if any, not worth it. If you want to change it every 3000 to 3500 miles, no problem but again wasting your $$ for no benefit. Your truck won’t run 1 mile further because you changed the oil so frequently or because you used synthetic. Just follow the owners manual as far as frequency of oil changes and replace the oil filter every time. And use the correct viscosity.
If you want to do it the most cost effective then follow the owners manual for oil change interval, use a quality Dino oil and replace the filter each time.

Seriously op quit trying to out engineer the engineers. You don’t know more than they do, just follow the owners manual or every 5k if you must. You’ll be just fine.

19 year old truck in New England? Usually engine oil isn't the limiting factor in the truck's lifespan.

In a Normal Service category you can easily go 10000 miles or 12 months on Mobil 1 or other synthetic oils. I wouldn't change it any sooner than 12 months 5000 miles.

You're pinching pennies here. A top quality oil filter is cheap insurance and relatively inexpensive. You're using synthetic which is easily good until 5k. Get a quality filter like Wix or Napa Gold (made by Wix) and you'll be good to go. If you really want to save money order all of the filters you need for all your vehicles (air, cabin, oil, etc) from Fleet Filters. Many of their filters are priced half of what the auto parts stores want for them, pays for shipping and you still save a lot. It's unbelievable how much the big box auto parts stores charge for this stuff and don't even mention the prices at the stealership.
