Thats, uh, kinda fucked up unless you just dont know better. I can remember when cars burned a quart of oil every 3,000 miles, and worn out and ready for a rebuild was 70,000 - 80,000 miles. Tires were bald at 25,000 and you needed new sparkplugs by 36,000. Cars have never been built as well as they are now (except for Dodge, they great up to about 100,000 miles).

I had a compadre who bought a Harley Ultra Classic, dealer gave him all kinds of break in instructions about stay below a certain RPM for x number of miles, then vary it for X number of miles and only then are you okay. I bought a GL1800 and asked the tech, what about break in? He asked, what you got in mind? I said we are leaving in two weeks from Texas to Nevada, back down to California and then Arizona and back home. He said, thats a great break in, enjoy it. LOL

    It's kind of a legal/marketing nuance.

It's worth noting that European countries don't consider Group 3 based oils synthetics but in the US Group 3 oils are allowed to be marketed as Synthetic technology oils. An off the shelf group 3 based synthetic oil marketed towards domestics in the US is probably not equivalent to a European market off the shelf true synthetic which will be a higher quality due to its group IV or higher base

I bought a Yaris in 2017. Was told pretty much the same, between huge improvements in bearing/assembly tolerances the need for engine break in on modern designs is pretty much gone.

That said taking it easy for a period is always good peace of mind and one less thing to argue with the dealer about if an issue arises

I would have to respectfully disagree with this…my dodge only made it to about 60,000 miles before 80% of the truck stopped working lol

Mine got towed 4 times in 80,000 miles. I thought it was just bad luck, but a customer bought a Ram diesel. Said its the best truck I have ever owned. About a month later he said you wanna go get some lunch, lets go in mine. We walked out and he climbed in the passenger side. I asked whats up, he said the fucking door handle broke off on the drivers side and they are waiting on one to show up from Ethiopia I think. LMAO

lol jeeeeesus. Mine had all kinds of electrical problems. I tried to ignore them but then around 60K miles the doors weren’t always locking, windshield wipers would come on randomly and the headlights wouldn’t turn on sometimes. I had bought the truck new and kept it maintained flawlessly.

It wasn’t a battery issue and the dealership said they “couldn’t replicate the problem” so I got rid of that POS and got the most reliable truck I could find.

I heard the same bs from dealers when i bought high performance snowmobiles, and street bikes back in the day. I just rode them hard from day one. You need cylinder pressure to seat the rings early as possible which mean's not being easy on the flipper, or throttle grip... same for every race bike owned. If something was going to fail it was now, and imo, that was due to a defect. I can't ever recall having poor running stuff.

I think we have a lot of bored people in here who just like to stir up a good conversation, including myself. And this happens to be an easy topic.

Probably listens to some internet tech that recommends changing your toyota oil every 5k miles but doesn't know everyones truck what conditions their operated in so he give's a blanket recommendation that covers his butt.

Non Tacoma truck, operates at the push of a button. Oil life monitor in the dash, easy to go by what it says.

Wow. How awesome is that? Tests your oil and calculates remaining life? We need to go through an entire process to take a sample and mail it to Blackstone. At $30 a pop, not to mention what I’m assuming is instantaneous results, this is a game changer. Someone got rich off that patent. Which vehicles have this?

Well to keep on the OP subject, "New Vehicle",..

I just hit 1000 miles today and drove it as recommended.
It was easy keeping the engine away from a steady speed being a manual a simply cycled between 5th and 6th on the highway at times.
Never went over 3000 rpm and simply took it easy.
Today I changed the oil and filter. Oil looked as expected "golden" and no visual debris in the filter.

Yes, I feel good about the whole procedure of not "driving it like you stole it" and having hope all grand oil stories are true.
Because when you buy it and pay for it you can do what you want with it.

Now if you hot dogged your ride from day one and waited till the midnight hour to do the maintenance.
Hope it works out well for you.

Because you can never go back and try again. Reality.
