That is mostly marketing but if you look at the approvals the ESP meets or exceeds AECA while a comparable Mobil 1 Extended performance does not. They call it European because of this.

I did every 5 for the first 4 changed then at least every 10. Keep true to rotating tires every 5 but oil i like to keep it to at least every 5-8k for oil. No rhyme or reason

I change mine every 5k or every six months (winter months / summer months ) ...

I tell my kids to change theirs at the beginning of winter and beginning of summer that's easier to remember for them than to keep up with the miles.
Their 2003 and 2005 corollas are still rockin.

In theory every 10k miles is ok but it's a very inexpensive thing to do and the peace of mind is a bargain at twice the price of an oil change.

    Oil life, not condition.

    Reading expert, obviously.

    Real trucks that do tow.

What surprises me but makes sense, is I never really thought about how few miles some people drive.

That's a fantastic idea. I've been meaning to clean out my dryer vent. This looks like the easy way to do that. Plus it might keep the cat out of the laundry room once and for all, which would be a bonus.

Just do your oil changes what the manufacture recommends, and quit overthinking this.

Pretty sure the manufacture would not approve of 90% of the mods people make to their vehicle either.
However, this is America, and we make decisions for our own personal welfare.

Well at least some of us have learned to lead without being told how to walk and talk as someone else recommends.
    Happy 4th,

Another words you could do an oil change, drive a zillion miles in a month under any condition, yet your oil is now only a month old. Hell, new oil could be good for years, and you could drive even more miles during its life. I think i'd rather rely on condition.

Think hour meter, not month meter.

Always did Ames oil and did every 7500 miles. Was told it was overkill but meh.

    Always change at 5000 miles.

    That’s Toyota’s “heavy use” recommendation.

That includes 4 wheel drive, off road, winter and dusty conditions, towing, hauling etc.

At any rate....who's oil life...the oil itself, or the engine?

My guess- oil. If it said engine life I’d change my answer to engine.

It's hours of operation, just an hour meter like is used on heavy machinery. Miles is just a handy way, which is why they say if you driver in traffic change sooner, if you drive highway miles, change less. And engine idling for 40 hours a month covers zero miles, but stiff has wear, probably the same amount of wear one running 60 mph. But one has traveled 2400 miles, the other none

    Another manual note on lubrication:

"To lubricate the 4-wheel drive system drive 10 miles once a month in 4-wheel drive"

FREE OIL for everyone who believes in 10,000 mile oil changes.

Take the perfectly good used oil from those who change their oil every 5,000 miles. Use it in your truck.

You'll get free oil every 5,000 miles for the rest of your life.

You'll be saving the planet by reducing the quantity of new oil that is purchased.
