With conventional? I know 5-7 with conventional (unless in dusty/off roading/heavy towing, then sooner) is fine, I guess 10 isn't much more of a stretch.

With synthetic I change filter every 5-7, but the oil doesn't get changed until 25k. But conventional, I wouldn't go over 7 even with highway miles. If you'd like to see real examples backed by oil analysis, check out bobs oil page. Lots of data on different oil brands, I'm sure there's one showing how long conventional lasted someone...I KNOW there's tons on different synthetic brands (the analysis' there are why I use amsoil only). interpret the oil analysis' submitted and decide for yourself but that's my take after seeing them.

Admittedly I change all my fluids a little sooner than "recommended" and am pretty anal about doing it (lol, I do my own too)...I don't push that view on anyone because I'm not normal XD

Either way if yota dealer says to then you're good, they do know what they're doing after all...I'm just extra

Ya I know I do 5 10k changes a year, the idea that the a year comes first is just alien to me.

    I feel vindicated. LOL

Was in outside sales for 30 years and being on the road was part of the job. 1,000 miles a week at my busiest would have meant an oil change every 3 1/2 weeks back when oil changes were expected at 3500.

Don't laugh, i buddy that builds nascar engines for various local class's will drain the oil from engines that need freshening up, and use it in his lawn tractor. Says its too good to dispose of.

After you've now read through it, quoted, and responded. Don't celebrate too soon, you are.

It's ok though you'll fit in with all the other misfits in here just fine. I'm still here after all :)

If it's unnecessary, then by definition, it's waste. And you're wrong about what I paid for my tires. Why do you think you know my situation? Seems to be a theme with you and your opinions regarding other people and their lives. Good luck with that.

Anything other that what the manual states is purely personal opinion. I myself change it every 10,000kms (6,000miles). It is only an extra oil change a year and makes me feel better. At the end of the day I will never look back and say I wish I did not bother with the extra oil changes. Plus I DIY so it gives me an opportunity to inspect the bottom of the truck more often and get dirt in my eye!

What do you think of what this guy says (Toyota Mechanic):

See the 1:30 mark for oil change interval.

The reality is that the manual requires personal opinion. Otherwise how do you decide if your truck meets the conditions for 5K OCIs? How many days per month of towing or dusty roads qualify? How much dust? What weight of towing and at what speed and what outside air temp.

    It is purely subjective.

So if the guy paid anything at all for his wheels and tires he overpaid? That’s logical. Because only you determine how someone else values a good or service right? I mean, this is rhetorical of course, because we all know that value for almost anything non-essential is completely subjective and varies wildly from person to person.

Yep. Petr from Toyota Maintenance YouTube, also a Toyota technician says the same. Combined they have more than 450,000 subscribers but you will find many here scoff at that and repeatedly tell you and I we are wasting our money. Don’t really know why an extra $50 a year out of my pocket is such a concern to them. For some reason this OIC irks the shit out of them, lol. I can predict this outrage every time I see another oil thread, don’t understand it but know its coming.

I don't worry about the miles on my oil when I get it changed. I only drive it about 7,000 miles a year.
I just have it changed once a year on the anniversary of purchasing the truck.

Clearly the point of the post sailed clear over your head. I don’t concern myself with how others spend their money or maintain their vehicles. My point is how come THEY are concerned with someone else changing their oil sooner then they do. I used his tire and wheel upgrade as an example of how insignificant the cost of an oil change is compared to their non-maintenance modification.

I think that post is pointing me out but it isn’t quite accurate. I change my oil every 5k but do drain and run it through a 2 micron bench-setup bypass filter every 1k. Very easy and quick to do with my setup. The Pro skid plate coupled with the Fumoto valve makes it easy to drain, filter and reintroduce the oil back into the engine. I work from home now and I save 15 hours a week of driving. This once a month regimen takes me 15 minutes. Still trying to figure out how to utilize the other 59.75 hours that is now available to me.
