Just got a new 2016 tacoma sport. Dealer says I don't need to come back
for my first oil change till 10,000 miles. Seems excessive, don't want to do
damage to the engine. What do all of you out there think ?

I found that weird too. They scheduled mine 6 months out. I have a friend who works at another dealer and he told me to just bring it to him in 5000 and he would change the oil and rotate the tires for me. I've always been a 3000 mile oil change guy and 10000 just seems to long for me. I'm thinking 5000 isn't bad plus the oil they use is a full synthetic.

Do your first change at 1500-2000 to get any impurities from manufacture out. Then it's up to you how often you want to change oil. I change mine every 5K full synth since day one. 107K runs great!
Keep in mind that they have warrantied your truck and Toyota also has a reputation for quality. They probably not going to recommend a interval that could possibly damage your engine:thumbsup:

My 2012 Scion tC only needed an oil change every 10k miles too, as per Toyota's recommendation. It used a synthetic blend oil. Had it for 80,000 miles before I traded it in and it ran great, never any issues.

I think most of Toyota's newer engines are designed to go 10k miles between changes just fine, if it's what the manufacturer recommends then I wouldn't stress about it.

I was planning on changing my oil around 1000 to get all the shavings out anyway but I'm picky like that. Hahaha!

Mine is on a 10K plan with full synthetic Mobil 1. When I first got my truck, I changed out the 1st oil by 1K.

Below is my first oil analysis. The TBN value shows I could have gone another 2K+. I would not go 10K on regular dino oil. Check if your manual has a different oil change mileage for severe duty service.
