Hi guys i have a 2018 taco dcsb, currently 4.5k miles and not into off roading. I'm from Houston Tx, this is my daily driver to work. Highways and city driving with occasional fishing trips. When should I change my oil? Per manual it says every 10k miles. Should I do eveey 5k or follow 10k? Thanks y'all.

    Do what makes you happy.

I do 5k changes because I can. 10k changes are fine.

Lot of people send there used oil in for analysis on these motors and it is totally fine for 10k intervals.

Are you under the impression the manual is printed wrong? Or do you think that the company which makes a truck which is primarily sold based on its reliability is intentionally lying so that trucks will break down more often?

Manuals lie. Every 3k or your engine will explode prematurely by the first 10k miles.

+1 for 5k. It's not expensive so why not give your engine some fresh blood

So you don't trust the manual written and tested by engineers, but you will take the advice of internet warriors who like to believe they know more than the automotive manufacturers.o_O

It's not about not trusting the manual or engineers, it's about spending a lot of money on an expensive machine and wanting to keep it in as pristine condition as possible.

Can you safely so 10k? Sure. Is cleaner oil better for lubricants? Yes. Removing solvants from oil is most of the point of changing it due to combustion...that's why you dont need to change diff fluid or trans fluid nearly as often. I used to work at an oil change shop and I've seen my share of oil sludge.

It's not about not trusting the manufacturers, it's about maintaining a clean and taken care of machine

I'm going to open up a gas station where you get an oil change while your gas is pumping.
You know, for those who need peace of mind that their oil is still good.

In any case it's not a bad idea to do your first oil change earlier than normal. There's a lot more metal and stuff that works off the engine components in the first miles of an engines break in period that makes the first oil changes important, or so they say.

I get what you are saying, but there is a point of deminished return on replacing your oil. When you drain and replace otherwise good oil, you are wasting time and money. Just my two cents. Unless you are using your truck for serious off-road and/or towing, 10k will be fine as long as you check the oil level regularly.
