What if the manual is written by the marketing department at Toyota? What if it’s full of misinformation? What do you do then?

Oil change ... also "bad MPG" and "is this totaled?".

I'd ask whomever makes such a bold claim to provide sources because it sounds a lot like bullshit to be honest.

Well, I was also including the "what's the max tire I can run without a lift", "Can I tow this 40 foot travel trailer", "Will this specific tire/wheel combination rub", and threads like that. Not JUST oil change questions.

    Let's fan these flames....

So if there is also debate about which weight oil to run; manual followers say just that and run what's in the manual -- 0w20.
Non conforming members often cite 2grfks manuals from other regions of the world that call for a wide range of weight (0w20 - 20w50?) And say American emissions and advertising is what limits our region to 1 oil choice.

My question is, What OCI do those other regions call for?

I see a lot of evidence of this. To me it’s obvious. First, the truck gives you a maintenance light every 5k miles. This maintenance light means change your oil. There is no such thing as a maintenance light to rotate tires. This is BS. 2nd, oil weight. There is a lot of documentation in the service manual which clearly gives factual information on oil weight grades, but this is removed from the owners manual. Only a vague description mentioning high-speed driving, which is absurd. Thank CAFE for this. 3rd, let’s talk about the transmission. How come the manufacturer of the transmission (Aisin) recommends a much shorter interval than Toyota? Drain and refill every 30k miles is what Aisin recommends. The goal of Toyota is to get you past the warranty. This is to make the vehicle more appealing to the average consumer to have less maintenance cost at the detriment of reliability. Marketing trump’s engineering. This guy is a Toyota master tech and he goes into the same exact explanation.

    Ok. . .I'll bite...

My dealership changed my oil for the first 25,000 miles at 5,000 mile intervals and NEVER complained. When I asked the person helping me in the service department about me changing oil at 5,000 mile intervals he said he would NOT wait 10,000 miles to change his oil on his truck so he's not going to recommend it to anyone else. This was at Gray-Daniels Toyota, Brandon, Mississippi. So I have NOTHING to complain about.

Friday is a good place for some fun, too. Threads about bedazzling your black truck with pink crystals (or is yellow better for a black truck?). Or removing unicorn stickers. But that certainly classifies the other types mentioned for clarification.

Don't forget about threads pertaining to pooping in your truck bed, or locking your bicycle to your leaf springs.

Is that so your friend on the bicycle can get extra speed to run the jump ramp to get on top of the 3 story building?

What ruins these threads is moronic comments. There is a lot of very good information that is scientific based and / or coming from very knowledgeable sources who work on these vehicles day in and day out, but keyboard warriors have other agendas. The reality is, when you ask engineers and master techs what they recommend they all pretty much say the same thing.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tired-of-people-approaching-me-about-my-truck.816041/

    Had to. Hehehehe.

my engine makes clicking noises, it’s underpowered, the radio sucks, the transmission hunts for gears,

I used this additive and gained 4 mpg

The dealership sucks, what is the best oil filter, what oil is the best, I use Amsoil and so should you,

i am not a wanna-be engineer but i can read and follow directions. the toyota engineers recommend changing the oil at 5K or 10K miles depending on use. it is written in the manual along with the criteria. fyi.
