Okay... then I just disagree with his advice.

Working in dealerships and parts stores, I've seen the way money is made from "good" advice and "cheap insurance".

I always do 5k miles (8k kms). I would rather do them too early than too late. All it costs me is an extra oil change a year. Cheap insurance considering I plan to own the truck forever lol.

    Yeah.

'Cause he's smarter than the engineers and tribologists that put together the specs that the twinkle toe lawyers tell them to give about a 75% safety factor to.

Big difference in frugal and cheap. And just based on your posts over the years, I'd wager frugal is the better word.

I know, 'cause I are one too.

Thanks! Good distinction and I would agree there. I tend to do what I have to, but keep it reasonable.

10k just seems like a lot. Maybe it isn't anymore but seems like it based off of my conditioning. 5k seems reasonable

Keep in mind the "engineers" that came up with 10k mile oci is a big round number easy for owners to remember. 12k and 7.5k would be a lot more difficult to remember.

Also, keep in mind it's the same engineers that designed........

    Frame
    Fuel Pump
    Blue Paint
    Wheel Bearings
    Leaf Springs
    Third Brake Light
    AC Blower Motor
    Front Radiator Bushings
    Engine Tune
    Trans Tune
    Coolant Bypass
    The Shit Battery
    Plastic Bumpers
    Front Seats
    Rear Drums
    Timing Chian Cover
    Rear Diff
    Entune Radio

Should I stop or keep going?

I did my first oil change at 1600 miles. I had a small amount of metal shavings in my filter. Cost me $46.00 on Amazon and I got an extra filter in that cost. I did have to buy a filter wrench for $17.00. Regardless I feel better about it and have peace of mind. I'm certain if I waited until 5000 miles for the dealer to change it they would say looked great!!! A little dirty but your good to go!!

Yeah I’ve read about it, has high molly content apparently. But they come in those stupid 1 quart jugs, kind of inconvenient to recycle.

edit: sorry, I thought you were talking about the TGMO. I’ll read this link, thanks.

You can get the 5qts at Walmart, buy two get free shipping. Pennzoil also has Platinum (not Ultra Plat) they look almost the same.

For the powertrain warranty it's good to do if you ever have an issue and have to show you changed your oil.

I'm not the best person to take advice from but I absolutely do not believe your oil goes bad sitting at the bottom of your oil pan, no matter a few years.

I've changed the oil & filter in my 4.7 v8 tundra roughly every 20k miles or once a year for the entire time i had the truck with mobil 1 synthetic so i know that works. Toyota recommends 10k miles on the tacoma v6 with synthetic.
