    COME ON MANNNNNN!!!!!

They put warning labels on toasters, Blow dryers, electric blankets telling you not to use them in the shower! We are a country of labels... Of course they can Label them & Color code them. Why not????

Just adding to the ribbing brother:D:D:D.... I have read many of your threads. You have helped many of us....
But you have to admit, USA loves labels!!!!!!!

Happy to hear it's all good now. Having said that, you've earned this lovely gal's expression of relief that you don't need a new tranny. :D

As I said in the initial post, AND the reply, I knew it was going to sound bad, but some things just need to be said. It was not an insult. I didn't call the guy a bonehead or an idiot. I simply stated the honest truth: If one can't tell the difference between a transmission and an engine, or transmission fluid and engine oil, they need to do research before they touch their $30k truck with a tool.

I am REALLY glad to hear that they got it all fixed. I bet you won't make that error again! I admit I was a bit worried that your transmission would be damaged. Dang things are not cheap to fix. Fortunately it looks like you are good!:)

Was the dealer aware that the tranny was mostly drained? Just wondering what they said about the tranny not shifting.

Yes, the shop was aware. I honestly think it would have shifted but I was in panic mode when I realized what I had done so I just shut her down.

And just to be clear...I do know the difference between oil and transmission fluid. The "fluid" that drained out of the trans pan was dark brown, resembling oil. I realize I made a bonehead mistake, but nobody's perfect, right? Taco on! :)

Me too. Have owned numerous different vehicles over the years and have always done my own oil changes. Seeing posts here like this one made me extra cautious/aware when doing my first oil change. IIRC (having done only one oil change thus far - new-ish owner still) the TRD skid plate hides the oil pan enough that one may miss it if you don't know what you're looking at.

Really glad to hear all ended well for the OP!

You never answered one of the first questions - about adding 4 quarts of oil to an already filled crankcase. Did you ever drain the 8 quarts? Or half of it?

Good to hear you didn't need a new tranny

One of my first oil changes on my '69 Torino Fastback when I was about 16, I forgot to put the drain plug back in before adding the new oil. That was an expensive mistake for me at the time when I was counting my peanuts for gas money.

Ah you made a mistake. Live and learn. Atleast you tried unlike the pansies that sit at their local dealership for an hour sipping coffee while another grease monkey changes the oil on THEIR truck.
