Just don't skimp on the other maintenance activities that are part of a dealer lube, oil and filter visit. Lubricate the fuel filler door hinge with white lithium grease. The area is known to rust. Check your fluid levels. Check belts and hoses, etc., etc.

I just checked the receipt and was a few dollars off. The 5qt jug of Mobile One 5W30 was $24.50 at WallMart and the oem filter was $3.25 from dealer. Total price of oil change came closer to $30.

I actually didn't look at Walmart, despise the place and typically refuse to shop there. But, if they're that much cheaper ... times are tough I guess.

    Thanks for the info!

conventional oil is about $12-$13 dollars for 5 quarts at walmart and synthetic about $25-$26. Synthetic is great but the reported mileage improvement won't offset the price. maybe the engine will last longer but with regular changes with conventional, the engine will last longer than you will probably keep the truck.

I was in a hurry the other week (on the way to pickup the wife from her office for a social event), and decided not to drive 10 miles out of my way to get to Walmart. Instead, I stopped at a Advance Auto and the SAME jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 was $35 instead of the $25 at Walmart.

Still, it took longer to get the oil than to do the change.

Tools required 14mm open end wrench, pair of filter pliers, drain pan.
