I got a 2003 2WD V6 in October, and I'm doing my first oil change on this vehicle. I'm going with Pennzoil Platinum oil, but am unsure about the brand of filter I should use. I recently was informed that Fram is not the way to go, and don't think I can get my hands on a K&N filter. I'm looking at Denso, and wanted to see if there were any recommendations as to brands or if anyone can recommend Denso, as I'm told they manufacture OEM filters for Toyota. TIA.

Don't over think it. I have used many different kinds in my 99 and never had an issue. If it's like my 99 it sits sideways and it will make a bit of a mess when you remove it. It's easier to get at if you remove the skid plate.

    Have fun!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If you buy a case of 10 Toyota oil filters are competitive with major brands.

I hear the trick is to look for the anti drain back valve in the filter.

The sooner the oil is in the is in the valve cover the better.

Toyota, Wix, Puralator, Motorcraft are all great brands. You'll need to cross reference for part numbers.

If you going with synthetic oil and extending your oil changes to 5K+, get a oil filter designed for syn oils - Fram Ultra/ToughGuard, Purolator One/Boss, Wix XP, etc … otherwise, it don't really matter. Do make sure it has an anti-drain valve, highly recommended where the filter sits sideways or upside down; it prevents oil from draining out in between starts.

Mobil one is a good option too. Beware of counterfeit OEM filters.

Don’t want to start my own thread to ask this dumb little question, I’ve always used the Toyota filters. But I actually ran out and the parts shop had denso filters, same same ?

Denso does make a lot of OEM parts, but like I said I’d be careful of counterfeits, especially from online. IIRC only dealerships are licensed to sell OEM parts unfortunately.
