Anyone get the message for a oil change reminder?? Wonder why my dealer is not filled too. Also I thought it was a 10K oil interval??? This comes on every time I turn the ignition on. Option to not get it again but was wondering if anyone got this and scheduled an oil change. Message started at 2.2K miles.

I heard the 2016 is suppose to 10k for oil change and tire rotate at 5. Not sure why it's on at 2.2 k.

Ironic you posted this now as I am at the Toyota dealership because of that .... LOL

I have 5550 miles on my Taco. At 4500 miles the yellow triangle came on. OF course I was out of town for Thanksgiving and I thought it was the check engine light. The manual says it comes on automatically at 4500.

The oil change for my TRD OR 4X4 is 10,000 miles. I was going to change it every 5000 ... he convinced me it wasn't necessary. I looked at the oil and it is clean, normally on my new vehicles I would change the oil at 1000 miles new then every 3000 miles. I used to do oil sampling as well, but things have changed in technology and service procedures. I am warrantied until 125,000 miles, so I will follow their recommendations

I will see if they reset the warning properly as well.

I am at the dealership now, and they just confirmed my TRD OR is 10,000 miles for oil change and rotate tires every 5000 miles

The reset procedure should be in n the owners manual for anyone doing their own maintenance.

Do you need to know, or care?
Service advisor told me oil change every 16,000KMs, but service every 8000KMs. Could be why that light is coming on.

The radio maintainence is seperate from the maintainence reminder light. The light gets reset at the service interval. Radio maintenance is usually set by the customer so they can keep track. They have had it for years on other models and I have yet to see one actually being used to keep track of everything

You can set it to come on after a set number of miles. Put in any miles you like. IE I set the transmission flush to come on at 30k etc etc. You can fill in the dealer info. Mine was blank too...doesn't bother me because I know exactly where it is lol.

Question maybe should be is: do all Tacomas run 0w20 synthetic oil?

It is all in the fine print, service is every 5000 miles. But in the details on what service is done, the oil is not listed as a change item at 5K. Instead it only shows the oil changed every 10K. There is a statement saying oil would be changed every 5K if driving conditions were short trips where the engine never got warm and or dusty and dirty conditions.

Toyota is paying for the oil for the first 24K, so of course they say to only change it every 10K.

IMO 5K is long enough, no way am I going to 10K

Thanks guys - its definitely a oil change reminder, the display changed last night after I stalled my truck (popped the clutch with the hand brake on) got a different message looking more serious with an oil can in orange ... I'll take another pic when I start out today and post. Weird I could see say 4500 miles but I only have 2200 miles on it so far. Kinda early for a 5k service for a 10k oil change. Guess I'll call the dealer and stop in tomorrow and get the oil changed.

Hold down the odometer reset while the car is off(acc off as well) for 3 to 5 seconds roughly then push the start button with your foot off the gas all while keeping the odometer button held down. You will see horizontal lines in the odometer spot go across then you can let go of the odometer button. This will reset the warning light, do it again after your oil change and it will start the counter over for you then so it will come on 4500 miles from your oil change. Just did this do mine when the light came on yesterday at 4500 miles.

where's the proof the oil is still viable at 10k Toyota?..hmmm. If they weren't paying for the maintenance (first 2 years) the intervals would be a lot shorter. ..jmho...Your truck do as you wish...

At this point I should elaborate more on my experience on this point. I have monitored oil analysis in a fleet for over 30+ years for over 155 million total miles. We repaired what we ran. I personally ran tests on a dozen vehicles (transit buses to exact, which next to a garbage truck is the most abused vehicles on the road by a driver). I doubled the oil change intervals on a group of vehicles (6k to 12k, 7500 to 15k, 10k to 20k mile interval) for almost a combined 300k miles. The oil chem pack had not degraded more than 2% from new "Dino" oil out of the drum.
The tolerance's in todays engine is so tight that's why they run more efficiently and last a hell of a lot longer. Hence the 0-20 wt oil. So Im convinced by more than a reasonable doubt, 10k is a good rule of thumb to use.
For those that are not old enough to remember back in the day, cars only came with a 12/12 warranty and were lucky to see 100k without a engine change.
