Just an example of different ways of describing the same thing. Different perceptions of the same thing .

Yes, I am being serious and instead of holes, I should have said indentations. They are easy to ready and could not be sanded off as suggested above.

I top it off to just under the full mark... What's wrong with having a opened quart sitting around until your next oil change?

Let’s see, $4 for half a quart of oil, 40,000 dollar truck. So we stress out about spending one ten thousandths of the truck price per oil change, really?

    Just some stuff...
This thread reminds me of a new hire we had a while back. My one interaction with him was the day he said to me, "They don't expect me to show up on time every day, do they?" Yeah, he didn't last.

My truck takes 5.5 qts with filter. I put in 5 qts, run motor, then top off to just under fill mark. Scuff up the end of the dip stick to a "X" pattern with sandpaper or a file to make it easier to read.

Only if you do it every day. That’s where I made my mistake. If you give them inconsistencies from the start you can teach them to except it. I didn’t employ this method from the beginning so I’m stuck showing up on time every day while others get away with Bullshit consistently. It’s sad but true. 85% is the perfect amount of reliable to be.

If you're at 85% full, I would at least get it up to 87% just to be on the safe side.

Syn oil is $6 to $7 a quart. Even less if you buy 5 quarts. What are you saving by running low? A couple of bucks a year?
Do the math. You will get the correct answer.

Measuring is too hard and stuff. I just fill the tube until it dribbles out the top. Then I throw that car away and buy a new one.
