I change mine every 4500 ish miles cause that's when the maintenance light comes on and reminds you that it's time for a change!

I did my first one at 500 miles but will stick to a 5000 mile schedule for the life of the truck.

I did the first one at 5k, the rest at 10k. Manual states 10k.

Yeah, but that seems a little too long for an oil change. Ill probably do mine every 5k, I believe it would work better

10k is the new norm with synthetics. Sooner than that isn't gaining anything other than less money in your wallet.

What page of the manual do you find that it says 10k cause I was looking and looking and can't even find a number on when it says to change it!

In my opinion with modern engines you should go no more that 5000 or 6 months with conventional and 10,000 or 1 year with full synthetics. Obviously there are a million different opinions on this subject, but as long as you change your oil at whatever interval you feel comfortable with, your engine should last a long time.

My dealer told me 15,000 Km (10k miles) for the first change. I wanted to do it earlier for peace of mind after the break-in, so I did it at 5000km. There were some slight metal shavings in the bottom of the filter housing, but nothing out of the ordinary for what I would expect to happen to a brand new engine after a bit of break in.

So when you get to 4500 miles you just reset the maintenance light if your going to change it at 10k? Seems kinda strange, why would toyota have the light come on at 4500 miles instead of 9500...... :notsure:

Look in the manual that has your maintaince service points in it and it will show oil changes at 10K intervals. Was a little surprised it was that long and if I knew I probably wouldn't have paid for the 3 yr full maintaince pkg.

The light comes to remind you about Tire rotation.

There is still technically maintenance every 5000 miles, just not oil changes. I don't think theres really anything at the 5k interval thats overly important that couldn't just be done at 10k intervals.

Because like a good neighbor, they want you to come in to the service department, to do nothing but check fluid levels and lighten your wallet

My wallets tight enough with all my aftermarket parts lol. I'll take care of the tire rotations and oil changes myself! LOL
