Yeah, and it obviously won't hurt anything to change the oil more often, it's just your time and money. Personally I've not heard of any cases of engines failing prematurely because the manufacturer's oil change recommendations were longer than they should have. If anyone was having widespread problems with this it would be in the news most likely. But if you're trying to make an engine last beyond 200k miles then yeah using high quality oil and changing the oil more often will most likely help extend the life of that engine.

    Work in progress...
I always pick up a 6 pack of Mobil 1 when Costco has it on sale. I also buy a case of Corona.

Mobil 1 has rebates through out the year. Combined with a 5 Qt container from Walmart for roughly 22 bucks you can get an oil change done in less than 30 mins and 20 bucks.

Yep! It's great, I just got my $48 check from them this week. 4 containers last me about a year but I'll likely stock up again in the spring

Really? The Blackstone report shows why. There was metal in the break in oil.

Are the transmissions in these even serviceable?

I ascribe to the theory of change early and be safe. Never had an oil related issue.

I change my oil weekly and strain it through coffee filters for reuse. I find trading-in vehicles every six months or 1,000 miles contributes to never being stranded. Never.

Come on guys, Toyota says 10K, just go 10K. The whole change every 3K miles was total BS dreamed up in a marketing campaign. Most European mfg's call for oil changes at 20K in their native countries.

    1. There is no break in oil in a Tacoma. The engine is filled, tested, drained, refilled and installed in the truck during assembly.
    2. Yes the transmissions are serviceable. However they are pressurized, which is why no transmission dip stick.
