^^^ this....i choose not do it myself, dealer has done it so far with NO PROBLEMS, if the toyota engineers think 10k is ok then ok, they are smarter than anyone here on what is ok for the engine, i do it once a year which is about 8 or 9 k.....but owners should know how its done so they know if there is a problem

You are correct...you have already paid for the service when you purchased the vehicle, so get your monies worth.

I've been turning wrenches on vehicles for over 40 years. Do I complete most services myself given the time and experience needed, yes; however, if a service is included...belly up and enjoy.

It is the OP's prerogative whether or not to utilize this service.

    Cheers

It is OP prerogative - but for something simple and important, I wouldn't take the risk.

Belly up n enjoy till they f**k your truck up and then  mo problems than the included service saved ya.

Free is for me! Toyota did my first change @2880 miles. I will do my own @3000 mile intervals until my next free change from Toyota with Toyota oil and filters each and every time. I might not be a Toyota engineer but I will do what I think is best for my truck, after all it’s my truck and I’m paying for it. I also work at a truck stop and have changed oil on semi’s for over 37 years so my own vehicles are no problem, we also have an account with the local Toyota dealer so I get supplies cheap. At the end of the day do what you can, as often as you want, with what you think is best your Tacoma deserves it.

OEM filters are cheaper from dealer than Wal-Mart. And the dealers use Mobil 1 so you can't go wrong with that.

Knew a guy with the same philosophy about what his Dr or dentist suggested. That he knew better because he'd read the farmers almanac and helped deliver a couple of foals. When he saw the cost for his dentures he had an aneurysm because he took fish oil instead of BP meds

Also remember Toyota doesn't make filters. They are Toyota branded by the low bidder for the current contract.

Any oil and filter that meets the OE spec is fine. And you cant go wrong using the duty use OCIs found in your owners manual.

first of all make sure you drain the oil and not the tranny fluid, has been known to happen.
make sure the O ring is seated it the right grove. look at the old one before you just remove it.
wipe some oil off your finger onto the O ring and the threads after it is in place. 'O ring in place on the cap'
tighten the cap to 18 foot lbs, mine bottoms out at 18 foot lbs.
after adding oil start it up before putting the skid plate back on. run for a bit and check for any leaks from the filter cap.
    install skid plate and done.

It’s just I can buy Toyota brand cheaper than box stores because I have an account there, I’m sure there’s better but there’s a whole lot worse also, for sure. New filter and fresh oil always seem to make my truck run better, you all have had the same feeling of accomplishment just after doing it or having it done .

I had to fight the dealer to let me use my 10k service at 4600 miles. They were trying to make me pay out of pocket instead. I was frustrated… but eventually my service manager realized I wasn’t going to fall for it.
