    Hey TW,

So living out here in Germany it is much cheaper to change the oil myself. For 5 liters of 0W-20 on the German economy is 80 euro (90$) and to have a shop do it is just ridiculous pricing. On post I can get it much cheaper so I'm having to learn how to do it myself.

Seeing how this is my first time changing oil I watch all the YouTube videos and felt ready to go. I got the Motivx Tools Oil Filter Wrench, Drain Tool, and Advanced Engine Oil Funnel to help the process.

I started with the drain tool and got the oil out of the filter and realized that I didn't have oil drain plug gasket for the oil pan.

Now seeing how I drained the oil out of the filter and stopped am I still good to drive my truck? It didn't seem like much oil came out and I checked the dip stick and I still seemed good.

Tracking! Rookie mistake but I'm learning as I go.

The filter doesn't hold much oil. You can't get the 2 years of included oil changes in Germany?

Oil drain plug gasket? The crush washer?

I'm a bad person because I reused one for about 5 years on my 2013.

I bought the truck through a 3rd party dealership and I'm sure I could look into that but with this truck I'm wanting to do as much as I can myself.

You can reuse the drain plug gasket multiple times without issue.

I've had the same one on my 98 forever. Never changed it once and it has 240k on it. Never leaked. It's so crushed it wont even come off the plug.

If you bought those off Amazon, they are not OEM. (Fake) I'm not saying they won't work, but be aware.

Iv’e re-used mine since it was new. As long as it’s tight you won’t have any problems. I also changed the filter canister from plastic
to OEM Aluminum. Probably overkill I just don’t care for plastic around heat.

    Austinmada,
I just changed the oil in my ‘18. I did not have the oil filter tool thinking I could use a strap tool/vice grips or some other means.
So I never did get the filter out. Neither did I use a new crush washer.
I like living on the edge.
I did however order the Motivx tool which looks very nice.
I’m on 8000km oil changes or twice a year due to pulling lots of trailers/ severe temp swings. In fact, next change I think I’m going to ditch the 0w20 and use 5w40, or 0w40 as that’s what I’m using in everything else in my yard (Shell rotella T6)
The difference in grade is only for temps anyways, 0w40 offering a wider range than the 20 but still being viscous in the cold....gotta love northern Canada.
Now we can get a good debate going!!! :)

Some members will even say, if it’s not TGMO then it’s fake oil and Toyota doesn’t make oil, go figure. Maybe that’s why Oil threads drive people absolute bat shit crazy.

Seems like the question was answered so curious if anyone is using Amazon synthetic 0W-20?

OEM packaging has a hologram on it. The reviews of the product state it doesn't.

I'm having to use a German oil because the PX on post wont have mobile 1 or any America 0W-20 in for 4 months. Cant order it on Amazon cause shipping restrictions and it's to expensive off post. The guy at the PX auto service department was telling me that Mobile 1 isn't even real synthetic oil. He was some old English guy that kept bashing on American oil. The locals around here love to bash American products. I dont know if there is any truth behind this but I told him he is a oil conspiracy theorist.
