I had my first oil change and tire rotation last weekend ( dealer f*cked that up real nicely- damaged 3 out of 4 rims while doing rotation, dealer replaced with new new rims) anyway, had the first oil change done and I noticed the level is reading above the full mark, I have checked it multiple time and keep getting the same thing. Is there an issue with these motors and the dip sticks?

I was wondering how it could be above the line when the dealers measure the amount digitally, don't they?

they go 5.5 quarts but its hard to get 5.5 quarts out without letting it sit for over an hour dribbling out.

Thats why i just do 5 quarts with an oil filter n call it good.

Next how the hell did they mess up rims doing a simple tire rotation?

And lastly... just be smart, do the work yourself and NEVER go back to the dealer again.

With Toyota and Lexus vehicles a lot of them require more than an even quart with filter change. They always go up to the next quart level. If vehicles take 5.5 qts, they go to six and charge you accordingly. That extra amount will not hurt anything.

That's were mine reads after I do my own oil change with 5.5 qts and a oem filter. I think when the engine is running that extra oil goes up and fills the filter - With that said the oem filter comes with a check valve I'm told to keep the oil in the filter when not operating but I'm not sure if that works the way it should being the filter is vertical and upside down.

Slightly over is fine, you don't really have to worry until it's so full that the bottom of the piston hits the top of the oil, that will aerate the oil which is bad. I'd rather have a little too much than too little.

ok, thanks guys, yeah they chipped 3 of the 4 rims with a torque gun, I mean the chips were like a 1/4" in 3 or 4 areas on each rim.

my main concern was that this could have done some damage being a new truck. I swear, can't even go get simple sh*t done without them f*cking it up. apparently that tech is on his last leg there at the dealership

Unless you are locked into this dealer for maintenance, I'd go someplace else next time.

My 2015 4.0L PreRunner Tacoma holds 5.5 qts. This is the first Toyota I've ever done an oil change on where the amount of oil listed in the owners manual got the level right on the full mark. All others have had a reading considerably above the full mark, but it never seemed to hurt as all have gone many miles w/o issue. I go by what the book calls for and will do so until Toyota comes out with a TSB that clarifies this issue.

If you own a vehicle that calls for something.5 and you do not do your own oil changes, you will be a half qt. less than that or a half qt. over that after the work has been completed. A repair shop doesn't want a half qt. of oil left over.

Went to dealership for my first oil change yesterday. I watched as the idiots put their greasy ass hands all over my truck. One guy took it a step further and proceeded to fake like he was having sex with the front end for some reason. They couldn't see me, so I have no idea WTF they were doing. Needless to say, I'm doing my own oil changes from here on out

Check it again with the engine running. You'll get a good idea of how much oil is in circulation. It is fine.
