OP , if all these dealers tell you this is so normal when you take it in , ask them what they will give you for it as a trade on another truck .

Thank you. I tend to like to think the same about myself, because I do everything myself unless its free (ie: I have free maintenance until so many miles).

Hard to believe the difference between useing a rag and a paper towel/tissue would help but I'll give it a try. I've been doing my own oil changes for 40 years and never had issues reading a dipstick until this vehical.

I just use what is available, which is usually a paper towel or a tissue since I keep tissues in my truck. Heck I even use my jeans sometimes.

I'd like to know how to fight it and win. Stealerships treat people like idiots. There is nothing normal about it and everyone knows it. If it was normal no one would want a Tacoma in the first place. We pay a premium for a Tacoma because it has a rep for reliability. We could all save a lot of $ by buying something else with a POS rep.

This is great advice, if not solely for the likely humorous result! It will certainly gauge their honesty or stupidity [or lack thereof].

Also, if the manual says that for every 1,000KM (600mi), 1.1qt burned is normal, wouldn't that mean that over the 5,000 miles, they expect you to put in over 8qts of oil?! Maybe I'm not reading it right or it was misrepresented, but if that were the case, the OP would actually be experiencing better than expected conditions.

That was my point , they can't very well say " Everything is fine " and then at the same time say " This thing is a peice of shit " if you wanna trade it in on another truck .

Request that the dealer perform a oil usage test...they will change your oil and SEAL your filler, filter and drain and have your return every 1,000 miles for a oil read.

I worked for a guy, kind of anal retentive, who bought a Ford V-10 motor home that used oil from day one...he had the oil usage test done and he was using about 1/2 the oil he thought he was and was within parameters.

Have you tried a different brand of oil?

I've had two vehicles that either burned or leaked oil constantly; my 1995 Yota 4Runner, and my 1986 Subaru GL. The Runner burnt a quart about every 600 miles, until I blew a cylinder head. The Subaru leaked oil on to the exhaust which smoked constantly. I probably used a quart every 120 miles but it ran like a champ. In both cars there were serious issues that were causing the oil leaks. My 2004 tacoma doesn't leak a drop(knock on wood).

I was going to add that I had an old chevy van pushing 200k miles and it would use a quart of oil every tank of fuel, so I kept a gallon jug of rotella in the back and added as needed. It died for other reasons, but I suspect the motor was just worn out. Good thing the dip stick was marked for two quarts between full and add.

NO, I'd trade it in if they give you the run around.

    Total BS. Good luck.

You might have to take the hit and ditch the problem In my honest opinion - trade up or down? Colors, Cabs, etc doesn't matter, what does matteris to make them help you out.

Who ever gave me bad rep for this, fuck you. He asked to see if I knew what I was talking about (how to check oil level), and I proved I do know how to check my oil level.
So again fuck you (to the person, that is retarded).
