    Its simple. Your truck is burning oil. This can be caused by few things;

1, blown head gasket (coolant in oil or vice versa, white smoke)

    2, bad piston rings

    3, scored/scratched/bad cylinder walls

Do compression and leak down test.

Compression test will tell you in what shape is your engine. If you have normal compression in five cylinders and one cylinder is low, you are loosing oil through that cylinder.

Little oil consumption IS normal. QUART every 1000miles is NOT. Please give me the number to whomever told you that loosing ONE QUART every 1k miles is OK and I will explain to him that he is a fuck tard who doesn't know shit about engines....

There should be some data somewhere that says what is NORMAL or EXCESSIVE... especially since most any OEM today TELLS you that 1 qt per 1000 mi is, if not normal, certainly not excessive. If you doubt me, just do a simple Google search and you'll see hundreds of people whining about the same thing with the same response from the dealer AND OEM.

I guess I was wrong in assuming you had a source to that data. I don't think you have credentials to claim otherwise without support no matter how you rationalize it.

You'd be wise to consider that being a fucktard depends only on perspective.

I think you're dreaming if you think they'll do that so soon. You got a 60k warranty... if they have mind to do it at all they'll make you wait a long time for it as they monitor consumption. A qt every 100 miles they might jump on it, but not every 1000.

That said, it will be interesting to see how it goes. It's interesting to note, though, that most people who talk such a big game wind up just living with it in the end or selling it at a loss to people like me who see no problem.

I'd live with it... it's not really such a bother. And it has it's good points since you're putting fresh oil in regularly and that keeps protection up for things like corrosion resistance.

Like I said, you got 60K mile warranty and apparently have a case established for your concern. If it gets worse as miles go on I'm positive Toyota will do something for you, but if it's 1 per 1K forever it may have a little less luster but it's still a gem.

Seriously, you ain't seen nothin' until you've fill up the oil when you fill up that gas and you are nowhere near that...and probably won't be for 1/4 million miles yet.

Since this just happened when making the switch to synthetic I sounds to me like you had some underlining issues and the switch just made the problem worse...I'd go back to dino.

Something is amiss here... I don't know if you're not communicating things properly to the dealer, or if they're not listening/don't understand the problem, or what.

One, is the assumption that since you check every 1000 miles, one quart of oil is missing, that it's a linear loss? So, for example, at 5000 miles, you would expect at LEAST 5 whole quarts of oil to have gone missing?

If that's the case, you need to make this case to the Toyota dealership. Expecting 5 full quarts of oil, which in most smaller engines that's the entire sump of oil, to last less than 5,000 is not reasonable nor is it to be considered normal.

I'd be curious to see against what standard this service department considers 1qt/1k normal.

Whoever told you this was incorrect. You are not required to keep synthetic oil in the truck. You only have to use oil that meets Toyota requirements which include dino oils.

What reason did they give? Was that the dealer saying this or Toyota Corp?

Based on your issues, if you want to keep it, I would buy it. But only if it's from Toyota and not some third party.
